I have a number of issues with this being implemented.
- Third person view negates, to varying degrees depending on implementation, the use of cover.
- Obviously this means those in third person will be able to see enemies around cover negating surprise attacks and also making the LOS radar system implemented less useful when an enemy can be seen on screen when not showing up on radar
- Again depending how this is implemented target/missile locks will be either easier to acquire because you can see more in third person or more confusing because a target will be visible on screen but might not necessarily meet the LOS check if the first person approach for targeting is kept.
- Third person provides and advantage to anyone using jump jets to find a target to shoot when briefly clearing cover (jump sniping as the whiners often refer to it as) as opposed to those running in first person who have to clear the cover find the target and then move the reticle to hit it.
- There is a greater view of the battlefield in third person. Seeing more can make it a lot easier to have a better understanding of everyone's positioning and everything else that comes as a result of that knowledge.
- Obviously this means those in third person will be able to see enemies around cover negating surprise attacks and also making the LOS radar system implemented less useful when an enemy can be seen on screen when not showing up on radar
- This is in effect dumbing down the game instead of making the existing system easier to use. Make improvements to the HUD and tutorials, so people can figure this out not water down the game in a way that clearly from polls people do not want.
- There are far worse issues to address that are more confusing for new people. People who did not play the older games, mechwarrior 2 or mechwarrior 3, probably are not familiar with lag shooting. People do not expect to have to shoot ahead of a mech to hit it with lasers. The option of what to work on is probably not exclusive to one problem or another, but if it comes down to it people being confused about leg and torso twisting is probably way down on the list of issues.
- Catering to the lowest common denominator just does not make sense from a business standpoint. At first it seems like this will bring in more players and more money, but are these players who cannot figure this system out the ones you want? Will they be the ones who stick around and want to drop real money into the game? The ones who are alienated by adding a system like this on the other hand are probably a lot better to generate revenue from. Is it worth the risk of losing players who would pay to make 8 year old Johnny happy he can look at his mech's ***? There have already been a number of compromises, e.g., engine size, heat sink efficiency, heat generation, etc, put in the game to make people happy because they cannot handle the current mechanics of speed or do not like more than x number of lasers on mech. How long until we get a no heat mode in game because Johnny's 5 year old little brother keeps shutting down or blowing himself up?
- Private matches have been discussed and it is always said there is concern about fracturing the community. Guess what. Putting in third person will cause a definite split in community. People will have no issue jumping on with just their units or in league matches and then hopping in public games as well. Third person is totally different partially because of the issues mentioned in point 1. Those who play it will always want to play it. Those who do not will never want to. There will be some who do not care, but most will pick a side and stick with it as much as possible.

Even if you get new players on board with the 3rd person perspective, they won't stay very long because the game is broken right now. The people who will buy MC and premium time are gamers who take this game seriously and want to advance themselves. Not newbies. Please cater to people who will play this game for longer; fix gameplay bugs and mechanics instead of newb'ing down the game.

What does 3rd person view have to do with light mechs?
I'm guessing he/she's the type that stands perfectly still while a Jenner gets right up their back side and legs or cores them. It's surprising how many kills you can get that way honestly. Never mind there are several cues to indicate you are being violated up the exhaust vent, they want a 3rd person view so they can see them while tunnel-visioning their target.

Whats wrong ppl, why dont you want 3d view in spectator mode ?

If people could not talk to their living teammates or the other team, I'd be fine with it in spectator only. Unfortunately they can, and theirs no way to stop them doing so with third party voip programs. The potential for cheating with such a function is massive.

It's great to have a vision and I think PGI has a great one, but you have to know how to limit it. Promising too much can easily backfire.

Have you considered that some experienced players would exploit this and use 3rd person knowing new players would be using it just to get easy kills?
How exactly would that help keep new players?

I also do not think it will help "new players". A new good player will learn to fight in 1st person quickly. A new bad player will not become good even with 3rd person.
Bad idea.
