Just to make sure everyone, well, actually read that and listened to what Russ said, we don't plan to add 3rd person. We're looking at what it would require of us if we did. [/color]

what dose this even mean!?

It's not like if they put it in for testing, it has to stay in and can never be removed.
I do believe the general consensus here is that they shouldn't even waste the manpower/time on it...

This shitstorm about 3rd person view? its getting ridiculous.
I DO understand the reasons behind the opposition, but this?
They already said it will be made on "if" basis, and currently, the "if" is so weakly supported by player base, that i dont see it coming, MW:O is one of the rarest games, where developers DO listen players. so in my opinion, it will not come, and if it will? then there will be some serious chances to it, limiting view of real vision, or some other s**t that casual players just have to accept.
Is there no end in your whining about things? 3rd person view, imho, currently is not the issue, rather i wish dev team would concentrate on net code, and make this playable outside U.S & canada, we, european players suffer from terrible lag spikes from time to time, for examble.
They said something, forums lit up, witches were burned (literally ofcourse) and sticks were being raised, now they gave their response, and still you just have to keep rambling and raising the mobs for barricades that have already burned down and surrendered.
where is the point in this?
Just... accept some things at this point lads. you've won, and you have been heard.

I do not have to , i graciously doubled the the number from the poll of those for 3PV . and even if i quadrupled it it would still be less than 18%
This silent majority you are eluding too does not exist. and even their is a sizable number i guarantee you they are not long term players nor our they going to be income positive players .
because if they can not spend a few minutes in the forums keeping abreast of the ongoings of a brand new, exciting and evolving big stompy robot game . what kind of players are they ?
Well i would not call them fans .
they are just entertainment consumers they will come consume and move on they will contribute nothing nor will they provide any additional income of significant amounts.
developing features for this crowd at the expense of more pressing issues is a huge error, and the real players who are going to spend plenty of cash and contribute plenty of time are trying to make them realize this.
This implies that your statistic is free of confounding factors.

Garth,
Then why even mention it in a broadcast if it wasn't already in the works.

I understand what you are saying, but to be fair the last time I heard something similar it was with my job at an internet support desk. They told us that they were looking into what would be required of them if they outsourced our jobs, but that they didn't plan to do it....and they did it.
And I understand that you're not doing it, but a lot of people are going to see the attempt as exactly that.
Having a third person view would be handy in a couple of points - say if you're a spectator. This would be great for people wanting to get screenshots and the like. However, I believe that finding that balance where third person is functional but doesn't give any undue advantages will be highly improbable.

Sounds like they want to know what it will take resource/tech wise for if they ever need to do it for some reason.

This quote contradicts what you said earlier. Your first statement makes it appear you are considering it and trying to figure out how to implement it correctly. Your next statement makes it appear that you aren't even looking at it.
I think we need Russ at this point to clarify but he has already changed his mind on things before.

They want to implement this in BETA to test it and then see the community reaction. (what a novel idea considering Beta is for testing ideas that may or may not be implemented into the actual game)
So relax and stop speculating until we see if third person actually ruins the game in the way that it is implemented.

If there will be a possibility to change the view into the 3rd person, you don't have to ******* use it.
And yeah, I'm not an expert, but even I think, that this ominous 3rd person view will >not< give you super power.
So slow down people...when it's in the game, you were able to watch at your nice detailled mech like never in a
Mech game oder at the tabletop games before.

"If" turns into "when" fairly easily.

I don't think anyone 'won'. This was probably the case from the start. All this hilariously rabid toothgnashing in the forums was pretty much over nothing. Shocker.
