I just read some of your other posts. You'd be lucky to get a job in the Drain Unclogging Caste.

Actually, as has been said repeatedly, but you ignore it, the advancement is through combat and capability. It doesn't matter if you are a crack pilot in the Clans, if you are a terrible leader, guess what? You will remain a basic mechwarrior for your entire career. Advancement to Khan/saKhan is chosen by vote by 500 people. They look at the candidates, at their actions both in combat, as well as their political views as well as general leadership abilities. And as I said in my other post, at least two clans are not strictly Warriors are the best mind set. Clan Ghost Bear has a third of it's leadership in the non warrior caste, and a third are freebirths, which gives non warriors even more of a say because freebirths will likely side with the non warriors in non military matters when it comes to the day to day actions of Ghost Bear. Clan Diamond Shark, known as the merchant clan has a poor military presence, but is well known for being great traders. Even their Khan and saKhan are more ofte than not, merchants first, warriors second.

I hope this thread understands if clans were a real thing you'd all be slaves in their system. Because it smells like a renfaire in here.

I love this constant comparison of the Caste system to slavery., HEY GUYS! Guess what? According to your own argument against a Caste system, India currently condones slavery! They still have, use, and adhere to their own caste systems. Except in India you can't marry outside of your caste, or rise above it. In The clans, a freebirth can move from the laborer caste to the warrior caste, if he is capable. And there is nothing that says that a Tech and a Scientist, or Merchant, or Laborer can't marry someone out of their caste And with the exception of trueborn warriors looking down on them, there is nothing to say that the rest of clan society don't view each other as equals who contribute to the clans.

The Indian government doesn't enforce a caste system you bigot. Also it's been explained before that rising above your caste is near impossible.

Be as flippant as you want, the entire Clan caste system was very likely based on a real world model that is used today. And for most people in India, it works.

Unless you're a Mary Sue character, which some people in this thread seem to think they are! :)

So go move to India and become a Dalit. Then tell us how it works for you.

It certainly works for the people at the top of the tree, so it must be fine.

http://en.wikipedia....system_in_India

You are right, the government doesn't enforce the case system. It's hard to enforce a social construct as a political entity. And yet, it's still widely practiced by the Indian people. The lowest caste only recently became considered for entry into priesthood. But even then, chances are people who come from the castes that traditionally have these roles will be chosen over the lowest because, tradition.

As for the clans, if rising above your caste was impossible, then certain clans wouldn't have large ratio of Freebirth warriors. Sure, in extreme clans, such as Smoke Jaguar, Blood Adder, Fire mandrill, Wolf post Schism, most Crusader clans, Freebirths are treated like crap. Yet if you look at the examples of freebirths in Warden clans, the number of Freebirths who are either mechwarriors, or experts in their field as merchants, techs, scientists, are known and respected rises dramatically.

The idea of a caste system alone is absurd. Having warriors be at the top of it is doubly so.

Well, that and most of us think the idea of wanting to be clanners given their utterly ridiculous social structure and institutionalized xenophobia and oppression of non "warriors" is indicative of a diseased mind.

You've probably spent a good portion of your life pretending to be a fictional space warrior born from a test tube into an oppressive caste system, what's another couple minutes of your time?
