The mech has some serious flaws. it is very fragile and that arm is ridiculously easy to tear off. but on the other hand many pilots have found a nice niche for the cent and the people who mentioned the streaks are right.
me personally I love the cent and i don't pilot hunchies (yet) but I do think that if you look at the hunchback it has a variant that can handle almost as many streaks as the cent, and it has a really nice laser boat variant. i feel the centurion needs a little bit of tweaking just to achieve parity. give us a boating variant, or maybe a little extra protection on that arm that so often becomes our achilles heel.
i dont think the Cent is useless at all, i think it is a great mech, but i do think it could be tweaked a little to make it more unique and stronger in an area that say the cicada or hunchback should not be able to match.

The drawback to the XL engine is that any killshot in one of your side torsos will also kill you instead of just the center torso like it is with standard engines.

Well one strategy is to totally strip off the armor on the Left Arm because you don't have anything there anyway unless it's upgrade slots. This frees up weight for your wonder arm or other areas of the Mech. Some prefer to use it as a shield however in strafe fighting. If you always stay on the right side of a group fight, with spare enemies towards your left, they are more likely to hit the dummy arm rather than the wonder arm. But still, there's only so much you can do when enemies will deliberately aim for the thing every time they see you. This is all why I'd prefer a Hunchback myself. RT is stronger than RA and 1 variant uses dual torsos.

It's a natural zombie mech. If you take an XL, damage to your big, big arms, that will likely splash onto your gundam side torsos, will end up killing you quickly.

I would like a firepower variant. Maybe like 1 ballistic RA, 2 energy RT, 1 energy CT, 2 missile LT (thus removing the AMS). That would give 6 hardpoints in 4 locations instead of the current options that give 4-5 hardpoints in 2-3 locations. Maybe sounds like much but not really.. due to tonnage you'd still have to sacrifice if you wanted that bang. Doesn't the HBK have an 8 hardpoint variant?

But then again, non-Wang variants have good hardpoints in their Torso, making them effective Zombies.
I've come to realize that the Centurion NEEDS to fight alongside a heavy or an assault.

I was only ever in PUG's with them and I rocked peoples socks. Going around with max speeds between 60kph and 75kph, I was fine with my mobility.
Centurions... I loved the chassis. I never underestimate it in the hands of a skilled pilot. It really is deadly. It could do with being a bit smaller, it's arms can be a bit fragile if your opponent is aware of it's potential power but it is a survivor, a scrapper, a fighter... a zombie.

It's about hitbox size: The Dragon has this huge "Longnose Truck" hood, which is all CT even if shot from the sides. The Centurion has a very slender CT and the broad parts on the chassis left and right are LT/RT. My point of view (I see Roadbuster prefers a different loadout and probably has the stats to prove success) is that if I mount an XL in a Centurion, I risk being killed by an early side torso critical. In a Dragon, my side torsos are basically unhittable intentionally. The XL engine mounts 3 crits in left and right torso, which upon destruction lead to reactor critical meltdown.
So in a Centurion with a regular engine (all but the 9D cannot mount engines that make you seriously fast) I can keep on fighting with punishment and destroyed mech parts that would otherwise have taken me out of commission, leveraging my 2 CT weapons and LT missile slots to the max. I see the Dragon as an "artiste" and the Centurion (except for D) as a grizzled Veteran hanging in in the thick of battle.
Similar hardpoints, different deployment. And that's what I love about MWO: It actually matters how your mech looks and where the weapons are mounted.

If you dont like the mech DONT PLAY IT! The cent is a great mech for those that know it. For those that took the time to learn HOW to play it. People cry the cent is **** Is because they got owned by one and then bought one. Didnt take the time to learn it and got owned again.
Use the shield arm to spread damage. Even if your arms are gone you can possibly have Lrms , srms and lasers... Normally i have 3 streaks 2 meds and a uac5 Blow off my uac5 and i STILL get kills. with the added bonus of people taking my effectiveness for granted.

Yes that would be real money... I still have my mc.
if he has 22 bays thats 300 x 17 , 5 for the 4 bays you get plus one which is 5100 mc , still thinking that is a waste of mc.

Yen-Lo-Wang: swap out the AC20 for 2 UAC5's and your golden
AL: 3 ER Large Lasers with double heat sinks makes a pretty awesome sniper boat
A: 3 Streak SRM2's, AC10 or UAC5 and a couple medium lasers or pulses will tear into lights and mediums.
Ive found so far all of these designs to be better than Hunchbacks. You have to use speed to your advantage and maybe upgrade your engine to take on bigger guys or close distance with missle boats.
Centurion's are the middle ground between speed and firepower.

well in my judgement the AL is already a pretty strong variant since it has a good mix of energy and missile hardpoints (4/2)
I think if they upgraded the A version to have 4 missile hardpoints that would make this mech a BEAST. i would be willing to give up the ballistic or energy hardpoints for that. I think that would give the Centurion a role that no other medium could touch, a medium missile boat capable of high speeds if youre willing to risk putting an XL. it would ruin many a jenner pilot's day.
the D seems pretty well balanced (2/2/2). maybe give it 1 more ballistic and take away 1 missile. or just leave it the same. having the 2/2/2 opens up a lot of possibilities and combinations
a little extra armor would just be sooo sooo nice to have. i also wonder if we will ever get melee attacks? if they implement melee attacks and cents are given a damage bonus for that claw, that would be TlTS.

AC/10 in R/a
3 a SSRM2 in LT (Chain fire)
ML in CT
AMS
Okay, I feel a little sick about abusing the Chained SSRM, but since I am mostly using it on Steak Cats and Jenners, I have no remorse for these people.
Try it, it's nice.

Honestly the centurion is my fav mech in the game. It is a versatile mech and thats the big key and the big anchor to the whole class. Yes you can't brawl a hunchback, yes you can't out range a gun cat, or out dps a streak cat or a cataphract............but you're not built for that. The centurion's key is speed and manuervability. You do not play it as a brawling mech. You play the flanker, the hit and run specialist.
You can react when your base comes under attack, you can push the enemy base with you're speed, you can build to kill lights, you can build to kill heavies, or as i do build to carry a mix of damage types so you can do your job............which is not to be a killing machine, but a great mid range support mech. You flank when the gun line drowns into a war of attrition, you push the enemy base when an opening presents, you go back and guard your base when its attacked..............guys...........your team needs that kind of flexability. It is not a chassis for all, you rarely end up on top of kill lists or highest damage, but you can't have a team of mech killers, because 2 jenners will laugh the entire way to the cb shop with you inflexability.
So much in mechwarrior doesn't appear on kill lists or stat charts and honestly..........thats a good thing. Let assault mechs and super fast lights claim those rights, its us mediums and especially the flexibly centurions that can turn the tide for the team, not one's self.
A few tips:
1. Don't brawl hunchbacks, they do it better,
2. Don't stand still, speed and the abilty to get behind your target is key,
3. Don't settle for pretending your an assault mech in a gun line, think outside the box, you have speed and maneurabilty that the assaults and heavies (dragon excluded) dont' have. Flank, change positions, seek higher ground, lower ground..........think!
4. The longer you survive the more you deal damage. I see so many centurions charge a line and die. Why are you making yourself the most obvious target? Go to the flank, hit and run, be that guy when its down to the last 3-4 mechs and you've got your weapons intact and the remaining heavies are walking scrap that you win the day. No one wants you to blow up in the first 60secs of battle. Those LRM boats are sitting ducks to a flanking move, an atlas walking into the enemy line barely notices you shooting him to death right behind him or from a flank. Your damage counts, every on target hit helps and the longer you remain active and on the move the more you confound your enemy.
The most boring matches i see are just 8 mechs walking towards eachother in a straight up slug match. I love harassing the enemy's rear areas and support mechs. A hunch is suited to the brawling line, a centurion can do everything if its pilot thinks outside the box.

It applies to that 1 variant, forever. While in it, you earn more money. While in anything else, you don't. This should have been self explanatory. Also, those upgrades you bought weren't restricted to just the YLW; meaning that is cash you probably would have spent anyway. Finally, I should add that Endo Steel is a much better deal than Ferro Fibrious and should be first pick.

When you waste your money on anything you can attain without paying money, you're making your parents sad.

But I've never talked of leaving, unless you count the very real cutback on playtime you'll see in a few hours. I paid money for this game, and it doesn't require a sub to keep playing.
