normally I hate necroing old threads... however this is one that definitely deserves bringing back up (and cross posting to Suggestions with a poll)

I disabled color grading with a config file and all maps except Forest Colony Snow look more vibrant and lively. Personally I actually really appreciate well implemented color grading, but it's pointless if it mutes everything's saturation to such dull levels.

It makes a lot of mech camo look the same. Only a few colors stand out.

instructions i copied and pasted them months ago to a text file in my mod folders not sure who first did them so all the credit to them not me. im just posting for the peeps who need to know.

1. download sweetfx 1.3.7z here (you only need that file) http://dropcanvas.com/l46x9

2. extract using winrar or 7zip

3. Locate your MWO game folder, for example c://piranha games/mechwarrior online
copy the dll files and injector.ini into the Bin32 folder of MechWarrior Online. The rest needs to be placed in the MechWarrior Online folder. It will auto run when the game starts and you can turn it on/off during gameplay by pressing Scroll Lock.

4. download one of the two settings files that I posted (the first has less colour, the second is very vibrant) and copy/overwrite the existing one with it.

5 To see the difference, hit Scroll Lock while in your mech and enjoy a better MWO

I'm currently bypassing the color grading just by using my monitor color settings and bumping up the digital vibrance across the board for MWO. Although I would be interested in trying the above to see how the game looks... I wonder about the "legality" of adding files or outside programs into the MWO game folder environment not to mention any effect it might have on the game's stability. In the past such things were generally frowned upon and discouraged... just wondering

Yeah I really don't understand why game companies now days think this "bloom, lens flair, desaturated look" is good looking... I can't stand it what so ever! Make it realistic looking if possible...

Now caustic I can see the brownish hue and yellows as we are suppose to be fighting on a volcano on some distant world, correct? However EVERY map has some wacked out desaturation too it and added filters that you would see a photographer use...

if you already have a custom config file, all you need is

r_ColorGrading = 0

It's very obvious on caustic valley; much more greenish

On the other hand, Forest Colony Snow loses the blue tint which I thought was fine.

This is the second reason I have not purchased any paint for my mechs. Why paint my mech when I can't see it (I'm driving) and no one else will really notice. There are some schemes that stand out, but you still have to be in close to see. At 200 to 300 meters... not so much. Then you have one map that you play completely in heat/night vision and 2 others that most players spend most of the time in heat mode. Caustic is the only real daytime map; but daytime in Beijing.

Maybe Alpine and Desert will have some sun and color. Or, perhaps, Desert will have sand storms akin to Frozen's whiteouts.

Listen, environmental effects are cool. I'm glad we have them. But, right now, that is all we have.

What am I looking at here, how did you change the colours? To me at least, the one on the left looks a lot nicer, the one on the right looks like someone threw a smoke grenade into the mech garage.

I was wondering if a dev has responded on this and whether they plan to actually improve the vibrancy and colours of the game? because at this rate even Hawken has more colour, and despite the VASTLY different gameplay, I just can't play a game that looks like **** has been smeared across my screen in order to make it "gritty and realistic".

Give me some COLOUR like the images posted.

Hawken has less color than this game.
But it's getting that sweet live-action show.

Definitely liking the pictures on the right. Its funny because I have been playing through the first Far Cry again recently and I commented that I wish there were more games these days that were that colorful. I am tired all the Call of Duty games and Unreal based games out now a days that have that same bland greyish brownish color to everything.

This game isn't as bad as some, but Caustic Valley/River City have that saturated sepia tone and Forest Colony has like 0 contrast. Frozen City Day is impossible to see anything like this because of the weather effects. So far Id say the night frozen city has the best lighting at the moment, paints actually seem a little closer to what they look like in camo spec.

Yeah, is there an official ruling anywhere on this? I'd love to try it out but not if its considered an exploit... though the "r_ColorGrading = 0" fix seem to work decently

I wonder if you can use ENB Series DX9 .DLL replacements here too, like you can with a number of other DX9 games (skyrim, etc)

Signed. We really need more color in video games, everything doesn't have to be gritty and sepia.
