It occurred to me that £40 is basically a full priced game, how much have you guys spent so far? Is it starting to feel a bit much?

If you start counting how much you "invested" on an MMO game...
You could as well count how much some peep have paid from...lets say, world of warcraft, after he played it about 2 years, and yes, that means monthly payment, one-expensive-game, dont you think?

I have invested around 200-300usd to this game so far, and will continue to support PGI, as long as they keep updating the game, evolving it, upgrading it... making it better.

There are tons of other, much worse ways to spend 20bucks/month, imho.

Why do people always say they want to continue supporting PGI? Your money goes to IGP, the publisher.

not entirely true - a percentage of it will do, but not all of it and probably not the bulk of it

either way, the game bringing in money means the game continues to get funding, whether that is via the developer or the publisher is largely irrelevant

$220 - founders and then an addition $100 on the xmas sale

still have about 28k MC left, have pretty much had premium the whole time i've been playing, and likely will continue to do so while there are still things left to grind cbills for (I have 3 of every chassis right now, and currently need another 150M to buy everything in the game including modules, dhs/endo and each different XL engine worth having)

i never sell mechs, and only grudgingly sell some engines (like when i had 5 standard 260 engines, i sold 3 of them), so i need to buy mechbays.

things i will never buy:

GXP conversion - why are you unlocking skills for mechs you don't like enough to play legitimately? I intend to play every chassis to 1/1 master at least anyway, so i dont feel like converting gxp is of any value.
Temporary paintjobs - real money is for things you can keep only as far as im concerned. will buy all the permanent paints they make available if theyre reasonably priced.
Hero Mechs (as currently implemented) - If they're made too good (like i feel they currently kind of are), i'll feel like i'm condoning pay-for-advantage. i would consider paying for "founders" type heroes that are just vanilla variants (no better in-game) with cbill bonuses, so that i could sell my existing variants and get more cbills faster.

edit: oh, and i bought an urbie and a hula girl, because why the hell not?

I've used GXP conversion to unlock modules - I actually have about 35k in GXP sitting waiting for new modules to come out

$150, two of which were purchased during the discount periods, so I got a better deal I think.

Got my YLW refunded, because it wasn't worth it.

Small sample size from those who frequent the forums, but if it carried out across the player-base I'd think it's actually a pretty good spread of spending.

Just founders. And that will be it for the foreseeable future.

I'v paid $120 for my founders package. Because I wanted to support the project and could spare it. I still have 10000 MCs left in Monopoly "money" from that. All in all I've spent $120 but bought stuff for ~$80-90 I figure. Mostly on mech bays and XP conversion but I threw a few MCs into a paint bucket that i'll never see value of again.

just the original founders money. and i agree with an earlier post saying that if they are expecting you to pay money in it should be for a finished product i.e. retail money for retail product.

so i won't be putting any more in (although i do want to when full release occurs)

i want paint and camo, but the pricing at the moment is beyond silly
i want a couple of more mechs, the pricing for these is a little high
i want some more mech bays, the pricing for this is reasonable though

but fundamentally, i want to see how the game is going to go with the faction warfare, thats where the longevity is for me. so i will spend my cbills to buys mechs and level those out until that piece is complete

The founders and took advantage of the 2 discounted periods to buy $100 packages each time. Still have a lot of it tbh but have dipped in to buy all the hero mechs, quite a lot of bays and do some GXP conversion on mechs where I wanted to master certain variants but loathed others and needed to rebuild c-bills using the Flame as I buy a lot of modules and hate constantly refitting them. No regrets.

Roughly around $150 in November of last year. But that was a while ago. Lack of game balance have been driving me away.

I learned early, that converting to GXP gets expensive fast, and after an initial round ceased it (converted lots of excess Centurion and Commando XP). It was a bad move, because although it made the XP useful, different strategies may have worked better.

The issue of premium time is a different one. I've been using it since I hit the button. I set a goal for the end of premium time. Initially, total mastery of lights & mediums, but that has lifted upwards to all mechs.

I won't be playing premium after my Founder's premium expires. I won't need to.

Evey mech I buy, I keep, so mech bays are going to be my main and ongoing expense. My support for game development will essentially be hero mech purchases, and about 5 mech bays a month.

People have different objectives. Time is money for some, so a little money saves a lot more time. MC spending reflects that.

$420 so far, more at the next big MC sale. I have a lot more money than time. I probably spend more time in Excel designing mechs than actually playing. After coming up with designs for roles that I like, I buy mechs, then convert XP to GXP so I can get them to Elite. I have all but the Commando Hero mech so far too. I tend to use c-bills for the modifications to mechs, MC for the mechs themselves. I do paint jobs and cockpit items just for fun. When I was a young college student, I had much more time than money. Now that I am getting up there in years, it is the opposite. It's just the situation that I am in, and if someone has loads of time and goes the grinding route, good for them.
I hope to get a fair amount of time in this weekend, as I am hosting a Superbo... er, Big Game LAN gaming weekend with friends coming over. I have enough gaming computers in my library to run a lance, and instead of Teamspeak, it's people in the same room. Should be good times. Several old farts talking about the MW 1 days while attempting to play as a team. The large amounts of Captain Morgan's which will be consumed might interfere with that a bit...

i guess i could see that if the modules were game breakingly good, but as it is i've unlocked all of them, have about 10k gxp left over, and havent even bothered to buy anything but the sensor range one (and i cant even remember which mech I left it in, because i never use it). it feels like if you play enough and only use your gxp for modules its hard to conceive of not having enough gxp to unlock everything pretty quickly without converting? maybe that will change, who knows

from the sounds of how many mechs you have, you play alot more than me - I have a lot less mechs, almost no cbills and until I bought a load of GXP I had next to no GXP sitting idle either

if you play enough to unlock most of the mechs in a decent timeframe then yeah you probably don't need to convert GXP

I personally find the sensor range, 360, and advanced zoom useful (particularly now they've buffed sensor range to work against ECM)

it's pretty universally true that real money is there in F2P games to allow users to skip grind when they are lacking in gaming time - it sounds like you have an abundance of gaming time so it makes sense that you would be less interested in skipping grind using real money

edit; spelling
