I could see 5 MC per win up to 30 MC per day and 150 MC per week maximums. That encourages a lot of players to play at a lot of different times (Like the old WoW dailies or STO dailies...) and that keeps an active and diverse player base w/out giving away the house...

No. Because WoW dailies come with a $15 a month price tag.

I'm a F2P, and up until a week ago, I hadn't put a single dime into this game. I filled up my 4 mech bays, had to make some sacrafices in order to get new chassis, but I finally hit the wall. I couldn't advance any further without additional 'Mech Bays.

You have mastered every variant on every mech chassis?

Somehow I doubt this.

You're just saying "I have four mechs I like. I want to use an additional mech without selling one of the mechs I currently own. So I need a handout so I can keep the mechs I like without spending any money."

On a related note. can someone spare him some change for bus fare?

Freaking 99%. ^_^

IGP, please hurry up with the proposal we sent you weeks ago. Just give us a reasonable number already so we can pick this up and do with it as we please. We are offering to take this off your hands AND give you a handsome profit for your trouble.

This is an excellent point that many people overlook.

OP, I do feel that F2P players should have a method to acquire more 'Mech Bays, but handing out MC might not be it, because it could be used for other purchases that really should be acquired with actual money (paint/patterns, etc.) or playing ('mechs, etc.)

Your cap idea is interesting. Even if it was 300, they'd be able to get one-time-use paints and such. Granted I'm still not totally hot on the idea of giving away MC. Achievements are coming and will hopefully provide a reasonable method of expanding 'Mech bay slots.

I also like the idea of "slots for c-bills" at an incremental rate, as far as first impressions go. Make it possible/viable to unlock a bay after 5/10/20/40/80 hours played, etc. It would have to be tweaked, balanced, and tuned, but the idea is an interesting one.

I do understand and feel your pain, and a few of my close friends have already joined and quit the game because of such things - I'm hoping to coax them (and others) back in (or in for the first time) as things improve. :)

Feel free to tell me your thoughts, and why you feel that way. "No" doesn't tell me why you think it isn't a good idea. If you don't agree, explain why, and put some logic behind it.

I don't want to hear you whine about how "unfair" it is because you're a founder and how PGI is stealing your "rights"

Here is the way thing are. This game is called 'free to play'. This means that you can play it for free. PGI want you to play for free so that you can find out if you enjoy it. If you do enjoy it you have the option of paying some money for the convenience of additional mech bays, cosmetic items, and being able to buy mechs more quickly. If you pay money for these things, PGI can recoup the costs of developing the game and letting you use their servers to run it and also make a profit - the reason for any company existing.

How is it to PGIs advantage to give you those things they intended to make their profit on, for free?

Everyone seems to forget that if they go all these "make mc items free" suggestions they are pretty well losing $$$ on overheads all the time. These guys still need to eat, cover server space expenses, recover what they paid in upgraded dev tools and equipment, as well as recover the cryengine and licensing rights they had to aquire before they could even *start* to make this venture possible.

From what i can tell googling the last big release from these guys was duke nukem forever, and i doubt they made a huge kitty on that given the bashing it got........... so cut em some slack, and pony up if you really want the benefits and to see this actually succeed.

Somewhat Alternate suggestion:
create daily/weekly challenges that yield a small (but reasonable) amount of MC. say, a weekly challenge could be 100-150 MC and be hard to complete. Daily challenges could yield 10-25 MC depending on difficulty.

Effects:
shuts up F2P players, they now have a small, steady source of MC.
Doesn't **** off paying players, they can still buy large amounts of MC at a decent price.

Obviously this could be tested/tweaked, but could be worked out and implemented. I think that this could be a fair compromise, no?

not a bad idea but i think you amount is way to high i think if you 100 mc per week might be a better idea takes you 3 weeks to get just enough to buy a mech bay take you almost 3 months to get a mech maybe

Wrong.

Paying people to play would be a very, very bad idea.

Let the accolades or achievements give around 300 mc together. (Maybe 300 achievements?)
Then give 1 mc if you played 3 days in a row and won 3 matches each day, thats another 10mc a month.
Finishing every accolade is 1 mechbay, playing 30 month every day another.

now, I have seen FTP games that give away their cash currency in small dollops still be successful, But, I don't think MWO needs to give away any MC. The only item I think they need to adjust is the mechbays, while leaving Hero Mechs and premium time and most of the premium camo as cash-only items.

These are mostly Chinese & Korean MMOGs/RPGs, especially the NA market is quite adverse to the typical Chinese F2P model (which typically includes pay-to-upgrade and P2W) and in general the acceptance of such an F2P model is lower in NA than in EU and the Western market .

Check around 3:15

If you won't even spend a few dollars (about the price of a fast food menu) to get mechbays then you either don't like this game and you should stop playing or you are too cheap.

MC Compromise for the OP?

how about you make a compromise and actually buy some?

i did type a rant but decided to simply say, if you have hit a limit on your mechbays from playing the game so much, pony up and give some support to it, the ONLY funding for this game comes from players.

I kinda like this suggestion. Reminds me of the World of Tanks closed beta, where you got 150 gold every day, so long as you participated in one battle.

Though, lots of people would join matches just to get their daily gold...which I never understood. I mean, matches were really fun, even back when it was just Germany vs Russia. Man...simpler times.

Anyways, I'd be down for that. It's not a terrible idea to reward free members with /something/ that they'd only otherwise be able to buy. Even if it's just enough for cosmetic junk like paints or whatever.

It's like Matt Higby(from the Planetside 2 division of SOE) once said: The free players are providing content to your paying customers.

Developers need to learn to appreciate them for that. Typically free-to-play developers just try to make you feel miserable for not spending money on the game(not that this game is particularly guilty of that).

MC is real money.

Giving away real money is not a successful business model.

If you have played the game to the point you have hit a wall, I am guessing you like the game. If so, SUPPORT it (by buying MC)

Or...you could get a job mowing lawns or something minor and make 100 bucks and buy some MC?
