Well, the Chameleon is essentially a Phoenix Hawk with a little bit of extra firepower, right? It might have a bit of a stigma because it was designed as a training mech, but it's right in our weight class and has a good mix of mobility and firepower.

Pretty much. It's main flaw is that it only has 10 standard heat sinks. But if those got upgraded to doubles it can be a pretty nasty mech.

@Janitor: just a quick clarification question: are the enemy mechs still at range, moving slightly away and to the north (right to left and at about a klick... minus the distance it takes for you to answer while Lance Two is starting to run for their left hook?

If you haven't moved, yes. If you have you're more closer to 950m mark, give or take. That's my best guess.

based on the current amount of posts, my charger should be about even with lance 2 (particularly since you guys haven't been moving very quickly), though deep enough into the woods that the enemies should have trouble detecting me.

You started moving just before they did, from my understanding you're just slightly ahead of them, and also slightly further to the North-Northeast then them.

north north-east or north northwest? if they are moving north (right to left) then for us to be NNE, wouldn't we be past them and they be headed right at us?

Sorry all, but I'm confused again-- the initial contact report had the enemy lance moving NE, and as near as I can tell we were initially heading in a NE or ENE direction. If the bad guys are crossing in front of us, wouldn't they have to be moving NW? I guess it doesn't really matter, all motion is relative.

((Edit add)) Nevermind, just got to the story thread, MWO ranges it is. See below though. . .

Also, I'd like a final verdict on the which set of ranges we're using. Either way is okay with me, but if we use the MWO values, I'd like a clarification on the SRM ranges. That table has the same value for SRM optimum and maximum range-- shouldn't the SRM range values match the range values for the medium laser? I count 7 SRM launchers between us, so. . . :D

In MWO, SRMs self-detonate when the reach 270 metres, so that's their optimal and maximum range, unlike medium lasers, which do full damage out to 270 metres, and then fall off to zero at maximum range.

Ah. . .so weapons don't hit as hard at maximum range then? If I hit something at long range with my PPC, it's not going to do full damage?

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to need to dump my SRM ammo in the near future.

just an fyi, this is the current MWO weapons breakdown (thanks to Ohmwrecker's great post/guide):

the values are basically the same as they were in MW4 byt the time Mercs came out.

@Spokes: presuming that the PPC is also using the MWO values, minimum is 90m, optimum is the rest of the way out to 540m, and maximum is 1080. in other words, you could already introduce yourself to them, but you would really just be tickling them.

i started moving to flank the enemy right after we first sighted them. basically, you guys took a turn to decide what to do (10 seconds) i started moving to flank them immediately so i got a 7 hex (210 meter) (i am moving through less than optimal terrain so i would not be moving at max speed) head start on everyone.

if you moved to flank left, you may have caught up with us... and that was before we kicked it into gear moving north... on open ground... south east i may believe, but NNE of Lance Two (when we were already 200+m ahead of you anyway)? Not without a Star Trek crossover... sorry...

maybe it took you guys 2 turns to get moving then. 14 hexes would put me well in front of you. it is just where janitor decided i was at. you guys were about 7 hexes ahead (i originally said i should be about even with you guys though further to the east)
