And this is my formal apology to everyone. If you see me in game, I'm sorry, but I'm probably piloting a skillcat, and it's because when I finish the game with 1000+ damage and 3-5 kills, I want you to hate the mech as much as I do.

Good for you!

I'm happy to snipe you from the range where you're completely helpless, or give you the credit for sneaking upon me and taking me out with a single good hit on my back. Either way, for me it makes more enjoyable experience.

Nope. The Cat A1 is just a magnifying glass on the real issue.
1-3 SRM6's still do too much damage accordingly. It's just a lot less noticeable.

You could nerf their damage by 20% and I believe almost as many people would still use them. I sure would, because even then they'd still be very good and well worth taking. Whether it's one or six.

3 more points than TT. An SRM6 delivers up to 12 damage per launcher on TT.

Well, it DOES have twin DUMBO EARS that can be taken out and ONE such ear is 50% of the SRM firepower so it can be crippled fairly easy.

But word to the wise, it's not the Cat you're abusing. It's SRMs. Cats are fine; SRMs do too much damage. This is true whether you're using one SRM6 or six of them.

Beat that dead horse for a while, but not a lot of people wanted to hear it. My numbers, like yours, showed a 10 - 15% reduction should bring them in line.

Ahem. "Skillcat" was the streakcat before ECM.

Splatapult is the AC/20 cat.

Gaussapult is the Gauss version

Splatcat is a ridiculous name which just breeds confusion.

The proper term for an SRM 6 cat would be Douchecat

Reducing the SRM and SSRM damage would do a lot to mitigate the A1 and 3L without breaking the bank.

You can't be possibly defending Splatcat? I pilot an Atlas every now and then. Its my JOB to brawl. I'm slow and I don't have the same maneuverability the Splatcat does. Ive been killed by three volleys of his missiles. It took like less then 30 seconds for him to disassemble me and kill me. IN AN ATLAS. Then he just moves on to his next victim like nothing ever happened.

Well, reducing SRM damage back to 2.0 and increasing the spread straight out from the launcher would make it much closer to what it is in TT, and it would actually work for same purpose too: To hit everywhere and crit places that have been already breached.

In TT SRM, around half the missiles hit per salvo, here it is easy(ish) to hit with all of them. So no need for damage buff, even with increased armor. (IIRC spread was the reason for damage buff originally.)

Then why are SRMs fine on -every other mech in the game-?

Because no other mech can have 100 % of his weaponry be composed of overpowered weapons? Most can be happy if 50 % of their weaponry can be overpowered. (Look at the DDC; 100 tons and can carry only 3 SRM6...

I love my SRMs. I don't want them nerfed because they make mechs go boom. But I have doubts they are well balanced. THey may not be as unbalanced as Streaks, but they are pretty good.

There are problems with the Catapults as well, of course. It has an unreasonable torso twist ability. Normally, not having lower arm actuators is a drawback, because it limits arm movement. But if you have 50 % more torso movement than most mechs, there is no drawback.

No, it is certainly not your job to brawl. Your job is to hold the line and be able to engage enemies from any range. Hot damn I love atlas that is a pure brawler, watch it lumber around hopeless, always out of the reach. Anyone who drives those should really get what ever is coming at them.

I drive a 4 srm6 CA with 2 ML because I like a back up weapon.

I use the srm6's because they are crazy effective.

I use jumpjets because they are useful and fun.

I'm not martyring myself publicly to justify using a specific build and making sure EVERYONE knows I am using a specific build for their own good and certainly not for your own amusement or stat padding.

Just be honest, you are using it to do well but you also admit you think it's broken. Trying to convince me you are intentionally running something you cannot stand for hours on end is alittle far fetched you's have more luck selling me beach front property in arizona.

Yeah, the problem is the average player can't see a problem until you shove it in their face and smack them upside the head with it a few times. And even then, they'll probably think something else is the problem. Hence, the fact they don't realize what the real problem is here.

I've always preferred Splatapult to Splat Cat. It has a better ring to it and rhymes with Catapult.

In tabletop, not all the missiles are supposed to hit the target. But in MWO you have all the missiles hitting. That's where the damage imbalance comes from. SRM damage needs to be lowered slightly... although I feel their range should also be increased since every other weapon in MWO got a range increase except SRMs.

This a short story of a match involving a Splatcat. I had one, I got bored with it and vamped it into something different.
I don't see why these Cats are a problem.

Late last night a friend, 2 other randoms, and I on comms launched into a 6V8 conquest in River City. Our team started with the 6.

Some encouraging words between the two teams were exchanged in chat and we began to move from the Harbor to upper city. Both teams must have had the same thoughts cause it was a hell of a fight.

First 2 targets were Atlas's and the others I can't remember cause everything went really fast after that.
I can remember toward the begining ducking behind a building next to Kappa's collecter to avoid Atlas LRM's. As I backed up from cover I looked left to locate a target to call out and suddenly spotted a Splatcat 400m out rushing at me. I called out Splatcat three times as I ran to take cover around the collecter and by the time I had regained sight of the Cat 4 of our team had him surrounded and destroyed at point blank before I could jump up and get my share of the critter. I only seen one salvo come out of it at me when he was first spotted. I think he was the first to go down and I kind of felt sorry for the guy, but I was really relieved to see it happen.
From then out we focused targets pounding the crap out of 4 of them and at this point we had the upper hand. Somewhere I believe we got split up and were each chasing individual random targets. And one by one we began to fall. I made it third from last. When the last guy fell I did not know our status as the whole event took place in about 90 seconds it seemed and we lost with only 2 of thiers standing. We were out classed and out Mech'd but the other team admitted if we would have had a full team we would have won. Lots of GG and and grats were sent to us from the other team as we disconnected.

We may have lost but I sure felt good in spirit as a winner. It will always be one of my memorable moments.

I wrote this as reminder to what good communication and sticking together can do. Against all odds we can overcome as I believe each of us has what it takes.

The communication is the key.

Skillcat? I call it a target that cannot shoot back over 270 meters

I play with friends and its one of the first to die when we see it.

The splat cat is dangerous if u let it get close. So dont let it. And if u do, its weapons are in great big easily targetted boxes

Srms are fine. If anything they are a bit weak. Streaks are a problem when ecm is in game. But thats another issue

If u let a skill (haha) cat actually close range with you its your own fault.

Individually, taken on their own, both Mech and Weapon is fine. It's finding a way to minimize the advantages of boating that needs to be solved, not more damage yo-yoing. Simply make Hardpoints in 2 varieties, large and small, with LRM15/20 and SRM6/Guass Rifle AC10/20 (+LB-X) all counting as large, count all other weapons (this is just a rough idea, so this is not a hard fast in/out suggestion) as small.

I'd support this in an effort to help cull boating of all kinds.. Don't forget energy weapons, either. PPCs probably shouldn't be crammed into medium laser mountings.
