Yes. SRMs doing .5 more damage than their table top version versus mechs carrying DOUBLE the armor is just so damn OP. Especially on weapons that can't hit the broadside of the barn at 200 meters.

Instead, let's further handicap any mech NOT carrying Streaks, that rely on SRMs as their primary weapon (now a similar damage nerf to Streaks, might actually be a fair balance), and further reduce any use of Commandos, HBK-4SP, Jenners, etc.

Because obviously by using SRMs, they are SO damn OP. I mean I know I sure tremble in my socks at non ECM packing stock COM-2Ds. with their Atlas slaying SRM6 and SRM4.

:)

I haven't seen any arguments that SRM's are extremely OP. Everything I've seen indicates that they're (at most) 20% overpowered. The only reason it's actually noticeable is that people boat them because of that imbalance. When you take that 20% and apply it to an entire mech's arsenal, it becomes obvious that something isn't quite right.

The doubled armor is a non-issue here. The only thing that doubled armor does is dilute the value of high damage single impact weapons like the ac20.

Not even in Alpine or Caustic? And not even ocassionally in Colony? Then I salute you as a great player. Every time I die in front of an brawler atlas, I blame myself, not the enemy. But that's just me. Maybe we meet on the battlefield some day and I get to see how it is done, life is learning.

Also, if A1 gets a drop on you, it should be able to take out another side of your mech with single alpha? But I guess we can then agree A1 far from OP, it can not even beat Atlas with a suprise advantage! :)

If I drop on alpine solo, I curse the gods of MWO and set up for base defense. Otherwise, no I don't have any issues getting into the action.

Wait I thought this was the Splatcat? So many broken Catapult builds I can't keep up with the names anymore.

Unmissable cockpit, sure. Fragile center torso? The Dragon, Jenner, Stalker, and Atlas would all like a word with you. Shoot, most mechs have a pretty massive CT (The raven being the only mech I can think of where hitting the CT is even remotely challenging if you're aiming for center mass, and that's because it's hitboxes are screwy). Every mech in the game is weak to legging, and by weak I mean not weak at all because legs tend to have as much armor as CT/ST unless you're dumb and put paper on your legs. The ability to hit your missile pods is small consolation when it takes just as much damage as taking out a side torso of another mech (which is a potential kill if they have an XL engine), yet it only robs you of -HALF- of your 45 points of damage. Meanwhile, you've already chewed through my CT and killed me dead. My only chance against you is to leave you hurt enough that a teammate can blow off your other ear before you kill him too.

Micky Mouse ears are a complete non-issue to ballistic cats, who have all the same strengths as the splat cat sans a high alpha and jumping. They make up for it with pinpoint ranged damage and perfect convergence.

Every other chassis in the game has in-built weaknesses (aside from the Raven, and again, only by exploiting bad hitboxes and unbalanced mechanics). The cat has one, and exactly one, it's big head. This is small consolation when compared to it's huge list of strengths.

Is this really a topic? Did you guys all miss the meta change last patch?

PPC/Gauss Boat > Cat Ears

Don't get me wrong, it still becomes the priority target when it gets spotted approaching...but it rarely gets there with any armament left.

And what's the best PPC/Gauss boat in the game?

Countering Cats with other Cats. Genius.

Btw, tell us how did it go!

Was it really that easy (was not for me, but like I said, I prefer long range)?
Did you ever feel completely useless in games?
Did your KDR go up or down?

And finally, did you experience any anomalities when hitting something with full force, but no damage registered? I had those quite a few times, although my ping was not any worse than usual. Played A1 about two evenings last week, after reading so much of it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I was merely pointing out what you would need to do mathematically to bring them in line with where they were meant to be. You would either have to do that OR massively increase the spread of SRMs at an even shorter range.

Pick your poison.

Even if you did reduce them to 1.6 that would still amount to about 60 damage for an alpha strike for a splatcat. 3 AC-20 volleys (spread out over 1-3 areas). That's still a crapton of damage.

I personally don't care. I know enough to stay away from a splat. But if you were comparing MWO to TT then yes, the SRMs ARE way OP. Loads of SRMs were only dangerous in large quantities because it gave you a lot of chances to get a through armor critical (because you roll led a hit location for each missile.

Woah, K2 is far from best gauss/ppc boat. CTF-3D is way better. Only thing K2 truly has over 3D is good looks. Even dragon does it just as well, if not better. (Dragon is harder to kill with headshot, and doesn't blow up with it's gauss.)

The only advantage the 3D has over the K2 is that it's a delicious toaster pastry.

The cataphract still has worse torso twist, worse hitboxes, worse profile, worse weapon position (you have to expose more of the mech to fire), and worse convergence.

The Cat is still better in -every- respect. The only reason the 3D is even getting looked at is because poptart.

Stalker can't mount gauss, it's slow, it's got an extremely limited field of fire, and it eats up an assault slot. Not even comparable.

No more weight slots really, and jumpsniping is way better than peek-a-booming. Survival rate is way higher. Also, not dying when gauss goes critical is nice advantage.

Compare and contrast.

You can drop the engine size to squeeze a few more toys, but so can the cat. Jump-sniping doesn't help you when you get into knife-fighting range, and also most pop-tarts put their gauss in their side torso, so survivability has nothing to do with it.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I just gotta say. This wouldn't be a problem if they just made SRM's fire sequentially like ... oh i don't know ... EVERY OTHER FREAKING MECHWARRIOR GAME EVVVAARRRR :)
