Actually, I think it does have a fancy touchscreen. That's why the SWTOR board costs so much.

My thinking goes like this:
Because it's Razer, I probably won't buy it - their build quality leaves something to be desired over the long term, and the prices on their peripherals (particularly the ones with the integrated LCD screen) are incredibly expensive. Knowing Razer, the price on this will be somewhere in the $250-$300 range, and it might run as high as $500. At that price, you're in Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS territory. And if I could afford one of those, I'd have already bought one by now.

Now, that having been said... I completely understand why PGI hyped this the way they did. Razer is a huge company. HUGE. They make deals with Blizzard and Bioware to make custom, tagged peripherals. To have the opportunity to join the big-name players like that with a named, customized peripheral is gigantic, especially given the fact that MWO isn't even out yet. Just having the Razer name attached is a big boon for PGI in general and MWO in particular. There's no way this isn't an advertising coup for PGI, even if Razer never builds the damned thing.

TL;DR: I won't buy a Razer peripheral, but PGI's excitement over it is totally understandable.

Much of their hugeness is due to their ridiculous marketing.

I wish people were more aware of Razer's poor product quality track record.

From Razors website - Better rendered image than the artemis website one..

Oooh properly rendered like that it looks quite sexy. But then the only Razer product I can remember off the top of my head was a mouse that was tiny and uncomfortable looking like a transformer with too many buttons too close together to be useful for well over £60. And I'm not prone to spending over £20 on a mouse, so I daren't imagine the cost of this. But it would be cool to use, only issue is the screen being a distraction, having the minimap on the main screen means you can always see it clearly, I'd find myself looking down alot.

My take away for this is that we can get information out to separate screens. If it is available to this controller, its available to other devices.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

This is insane. The amount of complaints just make my mind melt.

THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST ASKED FOR FEATURES EARLY ON WHEN MWO FIRST WAS ANNOUNCED. WE WANTED A SPECIAL JOYSTICK JUST FOR MWO.

There were SEVERAL threads relating to that subject back then.

EXACTLY !

The video was a nice addition. So it's three separate pieces... that's a positive for me. I might be able to make it work. Alright, PGI, I'll bite. Let's just see how expensive it's going to be.

Edit on my part. The "Physical" item seems to be rather solid. MEH. It's all still concept anyway, so I should probably just wait it out. Moving on.

EDIT EDIT: By solid, I mean it's all one piece.

Funny once I posted it here, they changed the MWOMercs.com/artemis page to include it

Then get it from Mad Catz (hmm, that would be perfect due to the battlemech name) whichowns Saitek, or Logitech, or Thrustmaster, but NOT Razer.

Just for those who missed it:
http://www.youtube.c...d&v=lkQLSBOxjh0

Its 3 separate pieces, hopefully meaning you can buy it in three separate pieces. If not, at least its not one large block of hardware taking up your desk, you'll be able to move the separate pieces around.

I could care less for it really, but I understand why they did it. When you get down to it, PGI/IGP are bussiness that are looking to make a profit from their product. Exclusive deal with high-priced peripheral company (Razer) = more potential profit. More profit for the investors = more money to develop game.

Which basically equals win for everyone.

I've got a F16 HOTAS, it's pretty bad ***, but be sure and get a rudder for this if you can't re-program the microstick as rudder (I couldn't figure it out in MW3).

Edit: ^bad meaning good not bad meaning **** to quote MC Abdominal.

That's something I've been wondering about, actually...when you use rudder pedals with yours, is it all recognized as one controller? Or does the game have to support multiple input devices?

I expect Razer will also market the controller itself as a powerful peripheral for many games (not just MWO).

I'm not sure I like the chunky flight stick, but the throttle/keypad might be worth it on its own. If that screen is a touchscreen and they rejigger that stick, and I, uh, get some money, I am sold.

Chunky?? IMO it's quite slender, and I don't have the largest hands in the world. Guess that's personal preference though.

Okay... it's cool to be sure, but giving me a countdown to another "thing" I have to buy (and will... if the price is right) when really all I wanted was an unseen... so cruel.

I was inbound to work when this got unveiled, but went back and read the posts leading up to the reveal. The one comment about "Drink your Ovaltine" I laughed at, but then finally all the reactions after the reveal. Man, I am out of breath from laughing so hard. That post nailed it. Drink your Ovaltine indeed.
