But nothings changed, this launch is {Scrap}.

As hilarious as these comments are, this is just another stark reminder why it's a bad idea to try and communicate these things to the community. The average person is just too stupid to understand how development works, unfortunately.

That's not the sad part though; even if you explain it, most will still assume launch means a litany of new features.

we were not expecting very much. we did not expect CW or UI2.0 but a little suprise to celebrate the launch would be nice
that launch doesn´t mean automatically plenty new features should be clear.

So, it's been a long while...

I was so excited about this game back in 2011. Even though it was a struggle between my rational mind (given Piranha's track record) and my emotional one (It's freaking Battletech!) to buy a founders package at the time. But, the emotion won out, encouraged by various promises made by the dev team.

I was excited to be part of the community, so took part in discussions. Helped new players in and out of game. Spent a lot of time on the TS servers. I even started work on a fully visual players guide, 'mech model and looked into how the maps were made for the engine. Over the course of the year, I scrapped all that and interacted less and less. The actions of Piranha (not the community) sucked all the excitement out of me.

It's been almost a year since that happened, I last logged in November of 2012. I'd expected to be on hiatus for a number of months, as indications were many of the features/mechanics I cared the most about were weeks to a few months away (which in experience here, meant many months away). I did not expect it to be 10 months though, with none of those even in sight (I still read every set of patch notes, or roadmaps, vainly hoping). And a "launch" which seems a mockery of the term.

I'm sure there's any number of reasons or rationalisations for this situation, but if this is launch, then I can only consider MWO a failure. Perhaps there will be some redemption or... something, in the future. But, my expectations were not excessive, they were lower than what was promised (in writing) and I have had no lack of patience.

Just disappointing. So very disappointing and depressing.

*Edit* And since this seems to be a "thing" in the response posts, I've very well aware of development cycles due to my career experience, doesn't change my post one bit.

just realised that Mechwarrior Online comes out today. What is this?! I need to take a video game vacation just to take it all in

I think it shows how jaded I am in regards to this game and the people who manage it, that in any other situation, I would have gone 'OMG DUDE I'VE BEEN PLAYING IT FOR A YEAR, COME PLAY I'LL SHOW YOU ALL THE COOL STUFF'.

Whereas my actual reaction is: =/ not sure if should say anything, or follow advice to shut up if you can't say anything nice.

There is NOTHING nice I can say about this game. Playable would probably be the only one. And even that barely so.

Sigh.

Wow, just finished work and came home to see this. I had been holding on to hope that something at least decent would happen today, and then I read this thread. I don't particularly like appearing to be 'negative', but I've seen game launches for independent, single-player games made by 2 person teams that dwarf this effort into insignificance, and that's being kind.

PGI, I want to support this game, but I'm not sure whether doing so is actually sending the right message. I started playing in about April/May, and in that time I've spent nearly $500 on MWO, including buying an Overlord pack for a friend. I've given money because I love the BT IP, and want to see the IP given a chance, and because my time is more important to me than my money. I earn enough that spending $100 a month, or even every week on a game is simply an non-issue. However, having had some serious conversations with people about the state of MWO and the process of its development, I am wondering whether my actions are simply sending the wrong message to the people in control of the game.

While I would like to support the development of this IP, perhaps my spending habits are sending the message that I like the state of the game and believe that it is being developed well. Perhaps my interest in saving my time is being misinterpreted as a tacit approval of design decisions and enjoyment of gameplay. While I would like to have faith in you PGI, for whatever reason you have dropped the ball on a lot of development decisions, and reneged on several of your initial statements to founders, either significantly or just slightly.

The only reasons I can think of that make sense of the haphazard and obnoxiously inarticulate approach to gameplay balancing, the hastily erected wall-of-text-backpedal-apology-community pandering, and the blatantly unmarketable prices for digital products are that whoever is in charge thinks that their system is working or alternatively, they just don't get it. Money must just keep on pouring in non-stop for the state of this game to be the way it is. Everything released is either a stop-gap measure to keep people believing that the game is OK to spend money on, or alternatively, no-one there knows what the hell is going on, or what to do with the product in their hands.

I don't want to have to say this to be negatively critical, I'm saying it because I really care about this game. The product that I began playing in April/May was awesome, and I thought had some amazing potential. I love the 'Mech designs and artwork. I love the feel of piloting a 'Mech. I have bought a new rig, joystick, foot pedals and seat to play this game the way I most enjoy it. However, nothing has improved in the 5 months I've been playing. In fact, things have gone backwards.

Surely 5 months is enough time to add even one single additional game mode, such as a simple King of the Hill. Surely 5 months is enough time to start tweaking weapon stats on a regular basis (they're just freaking numbers in a database...and the game was in BETA!). Surely 5 months is enough time to set up a simple player lobby like any other competitive multiplayer game has. Surely 5 months is enough time implement anything ingame to help new players. I could go on, but those are something like essentials as far as I'm concerned.

Rather, we received Ghost Heat, Gauss Charge, an earnings nerf with an as yet to appear upside, 3PV (unwanted, and without the promised split queues) and a bunch of new products to buy. Oh, and finally a tutorial which I will give you guys some credit for for actually doing, but for pity's sake, at least get George Ledoux to do some voice overs for it or something.

I have money to burn on this game. I have the desire to spend it on this IP, and will give a great deal of leniency towards any developers trying to make it happen. I have the time to spend playing, and the friends to do it with (if the game is appealing enough for them, too). I have the passion to help, and the ability to do just about anything necessary to support the game. I want to provide constructive criticism, and I want to listen to the reasons why you've chosen to do things you've done...the real reasons, not the marketing spin ones, and I want to make rational decisions about this product based on them.

Unfortunately, spending any more money on this game is simply sending the wrong message, and giving tacit acceptance to the progress on development. This lackluster 'launch' was the last chance I was going to give this game to get some more of my coin, and you borked it. If you're not listening already, (and I really hope 44 pages makes you listen) I will ask for a refund on the two Overlord packages I bought in the hope that this will reinforce my dissatisfaction with your lack of insight, communication and development, though I am loath to do so, as when I spent the money on them I was happy to do so.

I want to spend money on you guys, PGI/IGP. Please give me a reason to do so. Communicate with your community! Most of us really want to see MWO succeed, especially the ones that keep sticking around to complain and there are some talented, dedicated people in your community ready to make your success happen. I have no faith in you left, but you can have me back if you get your act together, and I really hope you do. You've had more money from me than I've ever spent on another game, and you could have it again many times over, but I just need to see some honesty and some effort from you.

When it's still beta, 20 of my friends that I invited to play this game, 3 drop the game after a few days, the rest didn't even bother to touch it.
And after the launch, it make it looks worse.
It kind like, "Dude it's launching soon. Come play with me." but then "Oh, it's just the same, nvm."
WHEN THAT ONLY MOMENT SO I CAN ASK THEM THE 2nd TIME TO PLAY THIS GAME IS JUST GONE!

WOO! YEAH WOO! This has DEFINITELY made Mechwarrior Online ready for full release. I must congratulate PGI on successfully removing the word 'Beta' from all previous locations. This must have been a big job because the rest of the patch basically equates to "cosmetic fix, return stuff back to how it was before, cosmetic fix, tiny bug fix, and finally here have a carrot to dangle in front of yourself." To be honest, I'm almost surprised we didnt get charged $30 upon login.

I was really trying to push myself not to comment on the topic this quick, to wait the dust to settle to see where we stand, but the negativity is very contagious, unfortunately. Just after spending $80 into the Overlord package, I feel really sad.

Check this out:
http://www.metacriti...hwarrior-online

This is what happens when you successfully screw the very fanbase that made the game possible in the first place. Its no news to anyone in the business. Happened like gazillion times before, with so many other games.
If the developers would've honored their most valuable fans first (existing community), then perhaps new customers, they would now have the biggest alpha fans of the game on their side, doing great promotion FOR them, for free. By screwing their biggest fans and supporters, in order to get some new paying customers (yet another see-through money grab), this happens (metacritic ********). Always!

Its very unfortunate, of course, but thats the reality of modern internet in gaming business. What were they expecting with this? Seriously! Anyone with any inside knowledge of the so called "launch", and half a brain, could've seen this coming. Like "Oh man, this is all you got? Nothing more? Either postpone the launch and make promises happen first, or prepair for huge **** storm!" Period. Very simple. I cant believe that no one told PGI guys about this. And Im surprised to see that they chose the **** storm anyway X(

Now suck it up PGI and fix it, if possible. Give early fans (the people who got you this far, who paid for the game to become a reality), some massive gifts and extras. And I mean HUGE gifts and extras! Invest into your most loyal fans! It costs nothing to you, other than some time to make it happen. Altho the damage is already done, and perhaps there is no fixing, at least with some bigger supporters I know (pouring $50-100 into the game, every month) ;)

Its such a shame really. I greatly enjoy the game, and I'd hate to see it crash and burn. I truly hope everything turns to the better :(

This is one of the most dissappointing game releases ever. Instead of Mechwarrior Online 1.0, we got a few bug fixes and balancing stuff. No, new UI, Gauss rifle is still unusuable, not even a new map for launch. Very sad. I liked the beta, but it became so boring, I rather play other games with more depth. A new 'mech every month and some minor bug fixes doesn't cut it, PGI. You made promises that you didn't keep and now you lost another paying customer.

Some people really think that there will be another Mechwarrior game if this crashes. But there won't. I will keep fighting, there is a community that survived with mods and megamek for about ten years and now isn't willing to walk a steep way till the game gets what it could be

People don't realise that 2 years is not that long to go from scraps of design paper to a playable, stable product... It takes a long time to come from nothing to a full fledged product. Sure, we could've argued that they shouldn't have shown us anything till in another year when the game would be in a better and more complete state. But, meh.

No, they got paid in advance by a horde of Mechwarrior fans (that really, really wanted and still want this game to work out) so they can afford to be lazy with making new content or implementing features that are *standard* for any game now.

You want to see how MWO should've been? Check out NS2. It is real "thinking man shooter", created by a bunch of guys who were fans of NS1 and decided to make new one even better. And they deliver. They want to make the best game they can with the resources they have, they support modding community, they try to make their game appeal to competitive teams and even e-sports. All of that without milking you from cash.

For me *this* is current standard. There's no excuse for PGI/IGP to not deliver given how much more they earn.

Let us participate on development? When have they done that? All they did was let us play THEIR game so that we spend money on it. Never has a single suggested feature made by the community made it into the game itselfe.

Make our own game? So now if i want to say that a movie sucks i have to make a movie too?

Listen up buddy.. i dont need to be able to make a movie to know that anything Uwe boll made is utter {Scrap}.

I dont need to be able to write my own novel to know that Twilight is a terrible sexist drivel of self inserting teenager girl ****.

And i sure as hell dont need to make a game to see that MWO is a trainwreck of a game.

Even if you leave out the arrogance and the lies comming regularly from the PGI staff, this game is simply not ready for anything.

No lobbies, laughable tutorials that only teach you how to move, terrible UI that leaves out vital information for new players, performance issues up the ArsE, disconnects and crashes are still quite common, horrible new player experience that pits fresh players against people that have been playing for a year allready. Horrible horrible cbill grind simply introduced to force new players who dont know any better to buy MC. The game has no social features whatsoever.. even the bare minimum of pre game lobbys and private matches dont exist.

For crying out loud even a game like gundam battle operations for PS3 has lobbies and the option to host custom games! A japanese P2win game has more features then mwo and it was NOT crowdsupported and only runs in asia while mwo is completly international!

Even if you break it down simply by objective standpoints this game is NOT a good game, its a complete and utter mess that cant even get the basics right.

Can the game be fun? Yes.. but so can any other game even if they are terrible.. heck you can play the new tTMNT game and you can have fun with that as was proven by angry joe, but sooner then later you will notice that the game is complete {Scrap} and novelty wears off quickly.

Call of duty, medal of honour and all the other brown "military" shooters can be "fun".. doesnt change the fact that this "fun" is packed into a large piece of ****

While all you guys were hating on this launch event... th rest of us were on the 3 teamspeak servers from this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...-launch-events/ having tons of fun... PGI logged on, gave out key for free stuff to people that were there.

There may not have been any special changes in game for launch, but it was pretty worthwile.
