so crit is only relevant regarding components. if I have e.g. an arm without any components that arm can't be critted? Or are crits still possible, but if i dont have a component all that crit damage is applied to the structure?

The exact question I just edited into my last post.

Dang, and I thought I'd just gotten my head around crits. Pheh!

Is there an undocumented key (like F9) that will take a screen shot of the MWO window (or full screen)? Using the "Print Screen" key just gets me an empty screen of blackness on the clipboard.

Actually print screen really is the key you're looking for

It automatically saves an image to piranha games/mechwarrior online/USER/screenshots which is actually superior to merely saving to the clipboard. You can save hundreds of full res screenshots in a single session without having to go pasting it from the clipboard.

Well a recent change made it so crits deal back 15% to the structure in addition to critting items... So now I wonder if that 15% is applied whether there are items or not. Good question!

Technically in TT the only parts of a mech that had NO components to crit were the side torsos (assuming no XL and no weapons/equipment mounted there). Arms and legs all had actuators that were subject to crits. However, as damaging actuators doesn't actually do anything in MWO I'm not sure if the system counts those components as "critable". I'm thinking not, but it would actually be kinda cool if you could. Say speed reductions for leg actuators and reducing arm movement for arm actuators or something like that.

Thanks for the "Print Screen" file locations. Wow! Had a BUNCH of files in there. ;)

Has there ever been a penalty for friendly fire? If yes, why did they remove it?
Spoiler

For me it's not much of an issue, as I'm usually in the second row, shooting AC2 or something. But I get sick of my friend's complaints when some allied Cataphract kills his AC/20 arm again ;) (happens every 3 or so games).

Yes. It's still in effect. If you kill a friendly unit it costs 10,000 cbills.

We can't have one for just hitting a teammate. You can troll other pugs by constantly running in front of their bullets to charge them money.

There is no penalty per se for friendly fire unless it kills them though

1/8th of an average income, and only when it was a killing blow? Wow, that is...basically no penalty at all...

OTOH, getting a team kill can be pretty random. I've had accidents where I popped a teammate with an AC/20 and didn't kill them. Conversely, I had a locust with (I am forced to assume) no back armor (match was barely underway) stop right in front of me as I hit the fire button on my Streakmando and three of the six hit him and killed him. 2100 games, 6 team kills, a like number have happened to me. It happens, but it doesn't happen when you most deserve it, necessarily. <shrug>

Kinda random for my only TK so far. Myself and a teammate chewing up an opponent .... All 3 mechs were in sad shape apparently "my ct was red", I fired and killed opponent with a LL, as he dropped, rest of lazer damage hit teammate and dropped him also ;)

Ow. That one stings. The only time I've had a dual kill, it was in...(holy overzealous filter, Batman!), I don't remember what mech, but I got an enemy Atlas and Jagr in one laser shot. I actually didn't figure it out, a dead buddy on comms did.

Also had the TK issue when circle strafing an enemy mech, myself and a friend on voice comms were working over the enemy mech, both of us had cored the mech down and both of us fired almost simultaneously. His shot registered first killing the target, my shot passed through dead mech and hit my friend who had moved into a position almost opposite me and killed him. Accidental TK's do happen, think I have had 6-7 over the course of playing MWO and all of them due to unfortunate circumstances and with no player at particular fault.

1) What does the Alpha strike control ( \ by default in control) do? Trying to use it did nothing.
2) Is speed tweak broken? I got that for my locust, and its speed seems to still be 153.9 KPH (it has XL 190).

Alpha strike fires all of your weapons. It's the same as a weapons group that has everything in it.

Not that I've seen or heard. Just to check, but maybe you're using the wrong locust? Skills unlock per variant.

In regards to it doing nothing rebind it to \. \ is one of those keys that changes depending on where the keyboard was made. While I'm sure the keybinding works for Americans / Canadians, as far as MWO is concerned my UK keyboard's \ is called "oem_132" or somesuch.

Then the alpha strike control is not working for me.
Just did. I put that upgrade on the Locust 3M, and atleast in the testing grounds, the locust is not going faster. I haven't been able to try it in an actual match though, since the internet connection is not very stable at the moment.

Oh. Just tried that. For some reason, it mapped the key identifying \ as ]. Odd

Thanks a lot!
