I think these forum icons are interesting for seeing who the whales in this game are. In this thread, for example, the Legendary founders often have Overload tier, while the elite/veteran founders always have one of the lesser priced Phoenix tiers or none at all. Also surprised to see the number of non-founders with Overlord - I guess they're mostly people who came to the game post Oct. 2012.

I came to the game a couple of days after launch, and I would wager that I've spent more money on it than the typical Legendary Founders in their entire time to date. The game is a blast, and I have no problem supporting the continuing development efforts for something that occupies so much of my free time. Perhaps at some point I may become similarly jaded as many of the "old-timers" on these forums. All I can say is I find the game in its current state to be worth my money for the time being.

Wish it lasted a bit longer, my 6yr old has been wanting new mechs and was hoping it would last till Christmas so I could get him a little bonus present that he wasn't looking for. Bought him the second package, as they both fast small mechs more to his liking.

If you mean the silhouette in his image, I'm pretty sure that is the unseen version from the 3050(?) sourcebook.

What about the Warhammer?

Also does this mean we will have no chance to preview the Saber variants before buying?

Basically, yes. They will be nearly identical to the shadow hawk, but with different hardpoints, so just drive a SHD around for awhile to see if you like it.

The Marauder is mine, based on the Reseen (see it in this thread) and the Warhammer was made by mgto.

The Phoenix Package is a great deal, but keep in mind that at the moment the Battlemaster just plain outright s*cks! It is in the eyes of many skilled players the worst Assault Mech of all times. It has interesting hardpoints, but the variants, the allocation of hardpoints, the hit box, everything is just broken with this thing. So, if you do not like to wait until PGI fixes the Battlemaster, and you can live with one less Hero Mech, go for a smaller package.

That aside, the Phoenix Package is a great deal bang/buck wise and it is something unique which is cool to have if you treasure such bragging rights :D

Unless you own ever paint color, I think I have outspent almost everyone at this point... unless you buy all your chassis's in MC.

That meaningless $$$ talk aside, I am highly critical of their performance to date. They have consistently under delivered and vastly over promised. The game is fun, what of it there is, but CW and UI 2.0 are sorely needed and not 6-12 months down the road from launch. MC pricing is off the wall. The Phoenix package was actually a decent value so I went all in there as well, but they need to keep up the momentum as they are still behind even their recent post launch schedule.

The game is live, get it done PGI.

I enjoy my Overlord package and do not regret it, but cannot purchase a Saber reinforcement in good conscience because said Overlord package has still not been completely delivered well over 30 days past promise date..

Even if the Ingame badges are a minor detail with no bearing on actual gameplay, I refuse to make further purchases of a significant nature from a vendor that still has not fulfilled all details of a previous deal. I will buy only bits and trinkets if anything.
Get me my badge before the cutoff date and the chances of me purchasing Saber as well go up exponentially :D

So, when do I get my in-game badge? I submitted a support request about this on Oct 23, and support replied that they would be delivered by Oct 29th - they are still not in the game. I shelled out a wad of dough months ago, but still have not received the complete package.

When there's something beyond mindless vaping of random mechs in the game, I'll be interested in spending more money here.
But I just can't justify spending ANY kind of money on this game right now.

There's just nothing to do.

I keep spending money on the game because I like what I see. Even though I'm not actually playing at the moment, I'm invested in the idea that Piranha has gotten a fantastic game started, and it has the potential to be great. Players are interested in the immediate inclusion of the Clans, but I'm hoping we soon see all of the planned functionality intended to surround these terrific slugfests.

Meanwhile, everyone is honing their skills.

I have been running every one of my PP mechs (including variants) each day until I get my daily-double reward and all three of my Battlemasters were fully mastered before I had a single other mech to that point, so I seem to do quite well in them. All three are quite fun for me too. I did almost completely diverge from the stock loadouts (I don't have a single medium laser on any of them, for instance), so you may want to try out some different weapons before completely dismissing them. I am a bit disappointed to get a win sometimes, as I know that will be my last match of the day with that variant. They are actually my favorite assault currently, with the HGN my next pick.

From a value standpoint, if you are going to spend money on the PP package, Overlord is by far the best. Once you get up to storm, you are getting premium time ($15 worth) for every upgrade ($20) that makes the 3 mechs and mech bays only cost $5 total - you will never get mechs that cheap any other way...

I seriously don't know what you are talking about.

IMO, the BM is one of the *best* assaults out there.

I'll admit that I didn't think much of the BMs when I was still running standard engines and hadn't elited them. At that point, they felt like you were steering a cruise-ship: Slow, sluggish and unresponsive. But once a TS-buddy suggested to go XL, I completely changed my mind about them.

Just throw a big XL-engine (360+) in there and it'll transform into a completely different animal. I'd go as far as saying that with a 360+ it almost feels like a medium at times.. well not quite, but it's close.

You'll be able to take up position way ahead of any other Mech in its weightclass, you'll be able to quickly get out of and back into cover, you'll be able to dodge missiles... you'll even be able to handle lights almost on your own, since it's not just raw speed that the XL will improve but overall handling/responsiveness as well.

You also have some of the best energy-mounting-points of any assault - second only to the Stalker I'd say. Since all your lasers are up there on cockpit level, there's no need to expose your entire Mech to be able to shoot stuff.

And if you're worried about survivability: I usually die to CT-hits or the occasional cockpit-shot. I very rarely get side-torso-killed. My stats seem to back me up here: Out of the 40 Mechs I own, one of the BMs (1D) has the best K/D-ratio - 2.06 with 70 kills/34 deaths and 66 matches played in it.
