Well, it IS supposedly SPESS 1980s-style technology...

...oh wait. We had better with MPBT EGA. On GEnie.

Kelton Flinn, where are you now? PGI needs your help desperately on the Lostech that is working player lobbies and group play. Oh, and factional warfare before beta was over. If PGI is Comstar, you're the Blessed Blake himself.

That we played with 1200 baud modems that plugged directly into the wall.

SERIOUSLY KIDS, THAT IS A THING THAT WE HAD. AND YOU'D GET DISCONNECTED WHEN YOUR MOM PICKED UP THE PHONE.

Coarse we also paid by the hour to play MPBT 3025 on GEnie but it was a lot of fun, Maybe here's an Idea maybe they need to bring in Kesmai to instruct them on how to build a in game social system like we had in MPBT 3025 and using our 1200 baud modems and our 386 SX and DX computers to play the game.

Also maybe bring in Kesmai to show them how to build CW.

Almost all the old Mechwarrior vets had oldschool modems... Hell, back in MW4, most people were playing on 56k at least when it first released.

These guys have set up a third-party lobby system reminiscent of the MSN Gaming Zone we had for MW3 & 4.

It might be worth a look, since PGI isn't doing anything.

Or, check out their site directly. http://mwolobby.com/

Make sure to leave a comment! The more people we have got the more he get tickled'to program such a lobby.

I'm a visual over a text type person, so have screen shot the lobby to post on my company's forums as source for page mock-ups.

I've love it if you guys that are interested to do the same.
Post your screen mock-ups and i'll do my best to gather a group of like features.
Then its about seeing what can be done.

Just remember interface with MWO direct is only through the user ie mouse/keyboard
So these interactions will have to be kept few and simple.
The lobby is for noobs, and must be noob friendly as you vets are on your TS servers with whisper groups and google docs

cheers

EDIT: oh and Baud, just because I know what it means too. :)

Well, late to the party again, it seems.

So then, the question apparently is not "how do we save MWO," but "is it worth it to stick around at all?"

I dunno guys, I've headed off stampeding cattle, been kicked and nigh on gored, had women rip my heart out for fun, been targeted by a malicious boss "just because," buried too many friends, and been on the receiving end of a good deal more pain and fear that I'd rather not mention. I just really don't see how something so small as MWO is even worth my, and by extension "our," worry anymore. This game had its chance, and that's gone now. Peace and love, brothers and sisters.

Someday it'll be remembered as a shaky to okay single player (read: non-team play), online arena shooter clone with a MechWarrior theming, with a few footnotes and caveats about angering your base for future devs. That's all. For a few their blood pressure will skyrocket when someone mentions it, for others it'll be something they fondly dream of. But for me, it's no longer worth the worry. Now I get to use nostalgia to tint my glasses rose, and can wait for the inevitable swing of karma to do what must be done.

To MechWarrior Online. May no other game so enamor, so inspire, and so impassion ever again. Gamers and their fickle hobby can't take that twice in a single life time.

House Liao had it's own community site, like everyone else.

It was a BBS. :P

And Kesmai managed to build a full CW system with less people than PGI did, and even taking inflation into account, for far less money- BEFORE coming out of beta. Seriously. By this point, we had a map that changed hands based on which factions won enough fights on a given battlefield (planet). I wouldn't trust PGI at this point to even be capable of THAT.

We should start a campaign by sending in our old modems.
56k on down to PGI.
I'm sure a few of us have a box full in our garage's and musty attics.
Obviously they either don't know or believe the technology existed.

At this point, I'm convinced that's by design.

"Phone it in" is all PGI knows how to do.

That nifty little box that pops up when you launch to let you select the game mode?

USELESS. Why? Because it doesn't remember your previous selection. The game can remember what Mech I had selected, so it can damn well remember what game mode I had selected as well. Except that PGI doesn't have the competence to think that far ahead.

So now, every time I launch, I have two extra clicks that I have to go through for no good reason in order to launch.

Seriously, PGI, that's just incompetent.

It should be a damned setting in the gameplay menu or something along those lines, not something that pops up every time you go to drop. It's just another infuriating part of a UI designed by someone who thought that the 90's were a good place to take cues from.

http://downloads.khi...r-2-mercenaries

AHH the true kings of MechWarrior development show below.PGI/IGP should hire some of these old developers to fix this crap game.
