I can understand the OP's reservations about spending a large amount of money on something that he can seemingly find little info on.

The choices are simple, don't buy it if you feel you don't have enough information, not an unreasonable choice, or if you can spare the money, buy it on the faith that the devs will make a game worth your money, and contribute to the financial side of creating a game.

all the flamming,and trolling aside....

120$ on a free to play game before you can even play it........how much money did you wast on your last women/guy you were with before you figuered it was a wast of time.....Most of us go on an adv.of 2-4 dates..if your the guy you just wasted more than a 120 on 2 dinners and 2 movies just to not get any and find out she was a tool....and even if you did get lucky was it worth it....then what if it lasts for a few months/years now you got birthdays,X-mases,etc...now you in it for thousands only to fins out she/he was a tool...

Look at it this way....IF when the game comes out is sucks you having the founders tag that gives you the right to complain about it above all others.....

who says you have to spend 120$ the 60$ is the best value anyhow.....your getting your money back +20$ with in-game money alone not even including the 2 month premium account.....and a free mech that erns more fake money its a great value.

Legendary = $10 for 4 mechs if you do the math..lol granted your not so called "profiting" in the long run. But it's a hell of a deal..haha

Hey now I'll see it once at least! Have to look and go 'hey there's my name!' at least once.

I bought the founder pack because it was a way of supporting a game that I am very excited about. I don't see how this is any different from donating to a big theater and concert hall and getting special box seats and your name on the "sponsors" plaque.

Then he hasn't failed completely, as he succeeded in making someone (more than one I'd guess) laugh! :D

I hope it's alphabetical because I think the list might be fairly long..haha! But I'm gonna use that as a fun fact in a few years.."Oh yea, you know that MWO game? Yea? My names in the credits"

Several misconception runs to in your first post...

mechwarrior 5 actually looked awful.

The Mechwarrior 3015 only got an in-game engine teaser. And it's looked brilliant. Even on current standard. I miss how the cars are humping in the parking lot when the Warhammer stomp near in the streets.

Console aimed,

I don't understand...???

UAVs,

What's the problem with that? O.o

distorted looking classic mechs etc.

Actually the MW 3015 Atlas, Jenner and Warhammer looked very good in my standards...

They want me to pay 120 dollars for "exclusive" content

They do not want. They provide an opportunity, to give them 120$, for exchange 3 month of premium, 80$ of in-game currency and 4 premium mech.

that is advertised as F2P

And it's an F2P game, ne? You can play free as the game released. I don't see where is problem with that. Yes, you can buy premium, you can buy premium mech's, you can buy in-game currency. If you want. If not, then you still can play for free...

unremarkable company with a mediocre track run.

Do you remember Wargaming? And the World of Tanks? Well, they even had absolutely no track run before the WoT...

The OP makes a lot of good points. particularly that piranha has a mediocre track record (imo bad) and has put the founders pack on sale without anyone even having seen the game in action. this is ENTIRELY different to how WoT went about it. they put the preorders on sale after the open beta test when everyone got a chance to play the game beforehand. also the premium tanks in the game were not available to anyone else bar those who paid for the starter pack with the highest priced one worth $90 but included $120 worth of in game items. the highest premium tank was Tier 8 in a game with 10 Tiers compared to 100 ton tank in this pack which is the heaviest tank category.

if WoT is any indication the first few weeks are going to be exclusively atlas versus atlas battles until people grind up to alternative assault mechs or their favorite ones and hoarding credits until they get there. in a game where it could take weeks to level up your tank many players took this approach while those that didnt were at a significant disadvantage. also consider that these premium mechs alway return more credit than normal could mean that the founder assault mech could be the ONLY viable assault mech credit-wise in the game. in WoT if you enter battle with a T9-T10 tank you almost always made a loss even when you win, unless you were on a premium account.

This mostly, it's been how long since we had a proper MechWarrior game? Far too long. I have no qualms about kicking money to something I want to play. Hell 120 bucks is CHEAP AS HELL compared to some of the shooters and arcade boards I've purchased. If you don't want to pay don't, for those of us that have been waiting a decade for something like this the money is no big deal.

I can see where the OP is coming from, buying something without seeing it can be a problem for a lot of people. But just a few facts to clear up some information.

1. The $120 Legendary pack was added after many (and I MEAN many), people ont he forums asked about buying multiple founders packs at $60 (or reduced a bit) just to get all 4 founders mechs. PGI made the Legendary to accomidate this. Should they have let us know earlier? probably, but oh well.

2. As stated before, these "special" mechs give an increase to money earned, the rest of the money spent is on the first few months of premium membership (just c-bills and XP boost, no items or such F2P people can't get.

3. According to PGI 10,000 people are in the closed beta, that is quite a few testers to get the base bugs out of the way before 20,000+ MORE people join in August to a smoother game.

4.Buying ANY founders pack also gives you guaranteed access to Closed Beta Round 2 (starting August 7th, 2012). This IS NOT open beta, it is giving people a chance to get into the closed Beta. And from what I have seen on the forums, the devs take our suggesstions seriously, so these people getting into a CLOSED beta, can likely get their thoughts and concerns heard and hopefully fixes made to the game to make it something EVERYONE will love.

Some people love something so much they are willing to invest in it to see it succeed. It is my hope that PGI can succeed and excell with MW:O. It is a great franchise, and the developers have made this a great community by taking our opinions and trying to find a way to incorporate them into their vision, which is something very few game developers actually do.

So in Closing, Yes they are asking for money ($30, $60, or $120), but that gives many things to keep people happy. PGI, please continue on your current path, taking our opinions and actually using them might set a precedent in gaming development (I hope so anyway :( )

It is a money grab. Which is good, because the devs need to make money in order to support the continuing development of the game.

Sounds like someone mum wouldn't spare the $120.

I agree....If you dont want to pay then dont....the makers of MWO didnt decide to spend a bunch of money to develop a game just so someone can play for free. Free to play....Pay to win.....If you want to win you will pay.
