PGI has been tormenting all of us but that tweet seems to be directed at you.

There won't be an Urbie hero mech this year, but maybe in May/June, 2014 (if the UrbanMech makes it to the game).

Until then, we will probably get next a Hunchback (following the Founder heroes streak) or a Quickdraw (following the heavier heroes streak).

Does anyone know any famous pilots for these mechs?

There is a "hero" Hunchback called Murakumi (Cloud-Gatherer), but I guess PGI won't release another Japanese hero mech so soon. I could easily think about some nice paintjob with traditional Japanese clouds, tough (read this, Hayden?).

Suggestion for a hero Hunchback:

RA: 1 energy (medium laser)
RT: 1 ballistic (UAC5)
H: 1 energy (small laser)
CT: -
LT: 1 ballistic (UAC5)
LA: 1 energy (medium laser)

Faster Engine (XL?) and/or Jump Jets would be very welcome. If the mech looks too good, they can just remove the head hardpoint.

A mech like this would appease the Hunchback IIC fans (even if it is nearly impossible to fit 2 AC/20s on it).

I actually have a whole topic on here devoted to that very question Odanan! You should step out of this topic on occasion! :)

With regard to actual equipment layout, how about this? :o
  • Endo-Steel Internal Structure
  • 200 XL Engine (64.8 kph base, 71.3 kph with Speed Tweak)
  • x10 DHS (x8 in Engine, x1 in LT, x1 in RT)
  • x2 Jump Jets (x1 in LL, x1 in RL)
  • Standard Armor, 98.8% of maximum (167 pts for TT, 334 pts for MWO)
  • x2 UAC/5 (x1 in LT, x1 in RT) w/ 4 tons of ammo (x2 in CT, x1 in LL, x1 in RL)
  • x3 Medium Lasers (x1 in Head, x1 in LA, x1 in RA)
  • x1 AMS (in LT) w/ 1 ton of ammo (in RT)
According to RemLab, all tonnage is consumed and all criticals are filled.
(Yes, Bishop, it is the UAC version of the dual LB-X loadout I proposed in the other thread. :))

Alternatively, the MLas in the Head could be replaced with a SLas & the AMS and ammo could be replaced with two more tons of UAC ammo.

Thoughts?

Nice Hunchie, but I would put all the ammo in the legs and the JJ in the CT.

I run an Atlas with dual UACs with 4 tons of ammo, and it is, most of the time, pretty enough.

Actually, I don't find that to be as much of a problem as its apparently being made out to be, though that might be a Cent vs Hunchie thing, or a difference in our respective piloting styles? ;)

Besides, it's not as though my UAC proposal is so radically different from yours.

2 torso ballistic not as big as you think as it's pretty much impossible to make a viable build with larger than twin 5s, maybe uacs, due to the tonnage. 50 tons mech, even with an XL only has so much tonnage available. At max, you can get about 25 tons of weaponry.

But if I could mount a uac in each torso, and have the usual 3 lasers hard points in the head and arms, that would be pretty cool, IMO.

Though, mine can jump, can shoot down missiles, and has slightly more overall armor. B)

Alternatively, why not switch out the UACs for standard AC/5s and two more tons of ammo?

As another alternative (and if one wanted to be perhaps a bit cruel), maybe a completely LosTech-free rendition would be sufficiently-novel; has there been a purely Tech 1 Hero 'Mech other than YLW?
  • Standard Internal Structure
  • 200 STD Engine (64.8 kph base, 71.3 kph with Speed Tweak)
  • x10 SHS (x8 in Engine, x1 in LL, x1 in RL)
  • x2 Jump Jets (x2 in CT)
  • Standard Armor, 94% of maximum (159 pts for TT, 318 pts for MWO)
  • x2 AC/5 (x1 in LT, x1 in RT) w/ 2 tons of ammo (x1 in LT, x1 in RT)
  • x2 Medium Lasers (x1 in LA, x1 in RA)
  • x1 Small (in Head)
According to RemLab, all tonnage is consumed but 30 criticals are still open.

Yes, I know it's light on ammo, but that's all that will fit (unless one wants to switch to AC/2s and gain the ability to carry four additional tons of ammo, or three additional tons of ammo and two additional Jump Jets).

And it's not as though either version is completely out-of-line with the other BattleMechs' starting loadouts; how many 'Mechs are there (in either TT or MWO) that both start (that is, come as stock) with more than one medium-or-larger ballistic (that is, AC/5 or bigger) and start with a 3-to-1 or larger ammo-to-gun ratio for those particular weapons?

Since when do (or should) Hero 'Mechs need to be "optimized for the 'meta'" out-of-the-gate?

This is just a thought. Do you guys think a machine gun boat (6-10 MG's) Hunchback with jump jets and a few energy hardpoints is out of the question? Thoughts?

I admit, I spam fire, suppress and snipe the heck out of my uacs, so I might prefer higher ammo loads. But I also use them regularly to force position shifts on the OpFor, and such, such while always racking damage, they are being used to dictate tactics. I also pretty regularly run empty and such, though usually we are at mop up duty by then. I like 800+ damage matches, they make me feel like I am doing something.

I don't really want heroes Meta-optimized, but since we get charged a flat rate out the gate of 75mc per ton, I might as well have those tons stuffed with as many lostech goodies as possible, even it I just sell it off.

Bryan mentioned in NGNG podcast No. 94 (go to 32.43 minutes) that the next light 'Mech is already in the pipeline and is being modeled. Four words he used to describe the next light 'Mech:
  • Humanoid
  • Controversial
  • Specialty Mech
Do you guys have any thoughts? Firestarter? Javelin? Panther?

With that said above, I think the next light 'Mech is the Javelin...

JVN-10F "Fire Javelin," 4xML (2819)
JVN-10N, 2xSRM6 (2751)
JVN-10P, SRM6, 2xSSRM2 (3049)
