Concentrating the firepower in one side of the mech might be an advantage if you know to use torso twist.

Mist Lynx is not a meta mech, but I'm having fun once I learned to play with it. (never walk alone, explore the low priority target advantage and use the jump jets)

This. In fact, in comp MWO, heavily biased mechs are the preferred ones. Even if they have balanced hardpoints, competitive players will load as much on one side as possible, since it allows them to use the other side for a shield. In this situation, the Urbanmech is actually designed for competition. (Never say I do not give credit where it is due, even if I think the Urbanmech in general is worthless, lol)

Arm loss probably won't be that much of an issue with the Urbanmech anyways. And depending on scaling and hit box size, ST loss may not be that much of an issue. I imagine most people will go for the CT on it anyways.

Generally speaking, concentrating hardpoints on one side of a mech isn't particularly bad. Side torso loss on a Clan mech is pretty much an immediate 50% loss of firepower, while on IS mechs it can mean a 10% loss or 90% loss. As long as you don't lose that 90% side immediately, your mech can stay effective for the entire match.

sure I can agree that in specific circumstances that's fine. but for the general public noobs, and us old guys that just aren't all that spiffy at spreading damage, the mech sucks for us. I took one shot from a mech at a decent range ...poof arm gone ... mech now useless. partly my fault, absolutely, but its still going to suck. And forget taking on a jenner, raven or locust, they will own you. Now maybe if you for go the ecm and load up srms, maybe you"ll have a chance, but given they can spread weapons around, while our torsos are empty, it doesn't seem very likely, unless pilot skills have a large gap.

Its not about liking the mech, but more being able to engage with your team, like a spyder or jenner can, these just seem to fall a little short in that role, given the weapon clustering weakness. Lets face it, good pilots will get good in anything. then there are us average folk that still want to enjoy our new toys we just paid real cash for. It is still a game, and we are supposed to enjoy playing it not spend the night in total frustration. I know its a fine line balance, just seems a few of these have fallen short, at least the kit fox/and adder with the low profiles can find more terrain to hide behind, this mech just seems to be a walking target. Hit boxes seem a bit large.

To me given the pod design, it would be pilot choice on how wants to spread his load out. Sorry but engineers don't sit around and find ways to strangle the versatility of something, but quite the opposite, trying to give something the maximum survivability/utility. Its the pilots, that, through battle experience learn to utilize the platform they are given to work with and who come up with the various weapons placement strategies, based on his or her personal experience, fighting style and mission requirements.

Just sayin.

I think one of the big things that CBT did that MWO does not, is that your first 10 heat sinks weigh nothing.

Actually, they kludged it on MWO. They reduced engine weight by the number of tons worth of external heatsinks an engine would take to get to 10- which is why sub-100 engines aren't in right now. A 100-rated engine actually weighs 6 tons less than it's TT equivalent- but then has to take 6 heat sinks (ie, 6 tons) worth of equipment.

I find my Griffin to be one of my better CW 'Mechs when all is said and done.

So guessing by the current information we have, then next IS line up will be the Urban mech, (Crab?), Black knight, (mauler or cyclopes)? Or perhpas the urban mech will be the next loyalty award?

I'm fairly sure the Black Knight and Cyclops will be the heavy and assault for the next IS pack given how close the voting was between those two and the Grasshopper/Zeus. PGI pretty much have all the proof they need that people want those two mechs. It also seems likely, given recent art evidence and comments from devs that the Urbie will arrive soon, so that's probably the light. As for the medium... Well, I suppose a Crab might make sense what with the King Crab having arrived. Personally I'd rather see an Assassin, Clint or Vulcan (actually, I'd rather see a Phoenix Hawk, but that's not gonna happen).

Given the fact that all IS mechs so far are "old" designs, that is chassis which were available in the 3020's or earlier (with some variants being modernized refits) I'm thinking they're going to save the Mauler for some kind of Next Generation pack featuring mechs which were all designed after the Helm Memory Core had been studied and the information there understood by the IS scientists. That could include the Mauler and mechs like the Daikyu (one of my personal favourites), Naginata, Rakshasa, Daimyo, Wraith, Nightsky, Berzerker, Hollander, Snake, Komodo, Gunslinger, Fireball, Jackal and so on and so forth.

Here are my thoughts on the subject of the next IS mech pack. because the urban mech is so special i don't think they will release it in a pack. its probably just going to be put into the game sometime between the end of January to early April. Then because there will be a light spot open it will it could be the javelin or mongoose. But because the javelin would make 3, 30 tonners, the baton would fall to the mongoose. Also because one of Alex's old sketches being the mongoose and PGI could do a COMSTAR pack with this mech. (along with my other mech predictions.) For a medium its going to be the crab. comstar based, and sense we have a king crab why not the crab as well. next the heavy and assault; they've already been picked by the community as close 2nds in the polls and fit nicely with a comstar theme. now because this is a IS pack and IS packs are cheaper than Clan packs we can expect to see some kind of extra pack like in the phoenix pack, from a business prospective. so in this extra pack you can see a couple of 40 tonners like the, sentinel, assassin, clint, or vulcan.

IS pack prediction summary:

-Urbanmech release sometime between January to April
------------------------------------------------------------------
Light- Mongoose
Medium- Crab
Heavy- Black Knight
Assault- Cyclopes
Extra/Reward- Assassin, Vulcan, Clint, and/or Sentinel

Hey, I'm Ghost Bear too.

While I do have both on one account... I'd just got my mechs ready for CW and was about to drop, then suddenly Ghost Bear.
sighs
Not sure if that's better/worse....

I am proud to see all the Ghost Bear logos popping up, but I am also saddened that everyone seems to be "jumping on the bandwagon"... I was hoping to have a CW that actually lasted a year or so... /sigh <_<
