(or HBS' Battletech)
Now imagine if there was this mini-game inside MWO, so you can play while waiting for a match... (PGI, please?)

The singleplayer Mechwarrior new title was my most far fetched suggestion and it's coming along!
Thank you, PGI for the year of 2016 and let's hope there will be a lot of great MWO new features in this 2017 (so we can suffer less with the wait for MW5).

Where on earth did you hear that? If that is the case and has been officially stated, that's a lot to cover and cram into one game. I honestly doubt PGI could pull that off in a quality fashion.
Consider that MW5 is set in 3015. That's a LONG time to cover in one game which would include both the latter portion of the 3rd Succession War, the Entirety of the 4th Succession War, basically everything Wolf's Dragoons did after working for Liao, the recovery of the Helm Memory Core, AND everything that led up to the Clan Invasion. That's not even including all of the little stuff that happened in the meantime.

And while it covers that time period it does take place in an isolated cluster. There's no guarantee that we'll be leaving that place. So while, yeah, massive history that's happening "Over There".

I saw the reveal on the live-stream and there was no mention of the game reaching the Clan invasion. I even went through Russ's Twitter feed and didn't notice anything about it (of course that doesn't mean I couldn't have missed something). However, no official words means nothing but speculation, which is why I was asking for a source. Also, for people complaining about the Raven 3L . . . PGI has paid how much attention to canon in mech releases for MWO? I don't expect them to do so for a pre-pre-Alpha preview of a game that's not slated for release for two years at the earliest (although for simplicity's sake I could easily buy seeing the Raven 1X, 2X, and 4X in a Third/Fourth Succession Wars game).
Besides, regardless of massive history happening "over there", there's still the fact that all of that history would be impacting the game, especially advances in technology and availability of chassis/variants in the game. Let alone the fact that for the game to cover even the beginnings of the clan invasion, and have it impact the game, that means the game is going to be located at least partly near the invasion itself . . . so the massive history isn't necessarily happening "over there". It'll all need to be taken into account if they want to get that ambitious.
Therefore, that's still a LOT for a game to do; and it's even more to do it well enough to have a quality game. I'd like to say I have faith PGI can pull it off, but I can't . . . and the earliest I think my mind could be changed is after the first quarter of this year when PGI has put hard dates for February for the Skill Tree Overhaul and March for the Assault Game Mode Overhaul.
Regardless, if you or anyone else has a source on the game lasting from the end of the Third Succession War through the Clan Invasion then I'd love to see it.

The Fireball should run some 265 kph with its 310 engine cap.
No seriously, I like the Fireball. I would not use the max engine but I can imagine going faster than a Locust.

I really, really want a chance to fight in the War of 3039 and give those FedRats the thrashing they deserve. I don't think that particular war has been covered by any mechwarrior or battletech videogame yet.

It's a lot to cover, but do you think they will leave half the MWO's mechs out of MW5? The Clan (and 3050's IS) mechs will come, even if in a later expansion.
See, PGI is now "married" with the Mechwarrior franchise. When the MW5 crew finish their game, they will need to do something else.
I love the IS mercenary set (MW2:M is my preferred MW title), and MW5 is not even out yet, but I can't wait for a sequel where you play as the Invading Clans... (MW5: The Clans?)

Won't happen.
IF the Fireball was released, you can bet that it wouldn't have any higher engine cap.
220 would be its limit.
Hell, the Locust is meant to have a 200/205 cap, but it's limited due to the engine. (sillier now with the drop to tweak).
Locust should get a 200 engine cap.
