With those reasons and options laid out, Black Lanner is by far the most appealing. I'll just have to hope that there will be a reason to revisit Clan 40 tonners in the not so distant future.

Yep. There are other Clan 55 ton mechs that would be better (in virtually every way imaginable), in the context of battlefield capability. However, the Black Lanner seems to have insane levels of popularity going for it. I cannot exactly pinpoint why it does, but... whatever. It isn't like we can use 55 ton mechs in scouting mode, anyways.

I just hope the Vapor Eagle makes it into a MW title one day. Now that is a mean, mean 55 ton mech.

Your total chassis count is still off for the 70/75 ton portion from when you had the NCT listed as 75 tons.

If the Vapor Eagle is the next 55 tonner in line, I think I can safely hope I'll see at least the Phantom or Pouncer before another 55 tonner . Vapor Eagle looks solid enough, but with tonnage restrictions, having low weight mediums that either punch really hard or can run extremely fast with ECM and great hard point variety, I see those 2 starting to rise on the "next best" list. Granted, in quickplay the weight is less of an issue so we can ignore that and stick with the harsher restrictions


After taking a close look at the Vapor Eagle, it's really not adding much at the 55 ton class beyond jump capability, more ballistic hardpoints, and that beautifully centered cockpit begging for head shot kills... oh so beautifully centered.

Or anything that has an importance beyond having been featured in MW:4. It's already getting old, it does not help the IS in MWO, it does not represent the lore.

At this point I have to vote with my vallet: no MW:4 Mech unless it is actually too important otherwise (think Fafnir or Templar; or Nova Cat to name a soon to be released Mech).
MW:4-nostalgia is strangeling all creativity in this BattleTech-game, and ironically it is very much against the spirit of MW:4 which dared to explore new worlds. MW:4 did not exclude the Fafnir because it was not on a previous game; it did not exclude the Mad Cat MKII because it was not in a previous game. And so on.

A fan of that game should honour its spirit, not turn MWO into MW:4-reloaded.

Well, there's always the fact that no previous MW game used Mad Cat MKII simply because it was MW4 that created the mech.
Microsoft created a heap-load of mechs for the game and game alone. At least in Vengeance's case.

That is: Argus, Osiris, Chimera, Hellspawn, Uziel, Thanatos and Mad Cat MKII are all MW4 originals.

It was because Microsoft was simply making a sequel to the Mechwarrior franchise, they weren't in it to milk nostalgia or re-imagine old board games none of the players knew anything about. They were just making a game and a good game needs good looking robots in it. The audience for MW:O is simply diametrically different and couldn't care less about Alex's originals.
