at them oment we need solo players in CW. But we dont need NEW players there. make it no trial mechs and make it that you have some experience...like a number of games or a tier or smth....to be able to join cw.

until CW matches actually mean something, cw is just another assault/skirmish with some turrents and more mechs. until we will get missions that mean something, where the result can alter the variables for next mission, where planets have a strategic value...we dont have cw. so dream on ...

pgi may not post here often, they may or may not even lurk through this mess of a thread, but they did make an official statement in-game before steam launch

Posted Image

They did everything short of telling people that HAVE to join a unit

I don't think everyone has to join a unit. There are some pretty devastating players that can make an impact as solos. However, the bulk of the struggling players among the solos could really use the potential extra force multipliers and training up that unit play offers

Well, just remember that not all playing are able to speak (let alone read) English.

It's one of those things that would only work in a limited fashion (community assisted translations for various things would actually be great, except it's not an option).

I loved seeing this message pop up. A MAJOR step in the right direction.

Armando, you're going to make 100 pages yet - I can feel it...

The one thing that every teacher I ever had agreed on, was that I was VERY good at facilitating discussions (oddly enough, facilitating discussions is what I do for a living now...It has allowed me to purchase/own every mech in the game. /wink).

While there has been a lot of 'off topic' stuff happening in the tread, there has also been a large number of great points (opportunities for game improvement) brought up by MANY different people. The "Welcome to Faction Play" posted by Kin3ticX is an example that shows PGI does listen (at least on occasion), and is working on making positive changes.

I'm still waiting for someone to give me on single example as to why I shouldn't be allowed to drop in CW as a solo player when I want to.

OK so myself a returning vet to the game has sold my lot of IS mechs to begin collecting clan tech. However being so pricey I have one mech and fill other 3 with trials. This is temporary but by your logic I should not be able to participate in CW. Logic is lacking. Not sure how far this thread has progressed past the original few pages of lost suggestions but from what I was reading there was a lot of tears flowing. Yes alot of pugs dropping solo suck, but guess what, they would still suck if part of a unit. People don't become skilled by adding a tag to their name. They become skilled through trial and error, you should know this. I guarantee you weren't me all star when you first started CW. Guaranteed.

Premade droppers have ruined CW for me. It seems that they've infected the clans and CJF in particularly.

I used to win most of my matches handily and if I didn't at least it was damn close. I haven't had a decent team in the past two weeks when dropping by myself or in a small group.

This has become incredibly bad. Isn't there any way we can put a time restriction on when a new player can compete in CW? How about you log at least 20 hours of play before you ruin 11 other people's fun?

You should be able to solo drop, sometimes your unit isn't online or they're busy. What would be more beneficial to everyone is letting people who have some idea of what the hell they're doing play. See the above post.

You can't even decide what you're complaining about...
In your first sentence you blame premades, then in the next sentence you blame new players, then in the third you blame your teams.

Don't know about you as a player in the game, but I can point out that there is only one constant in the 3 examples above.

Wow, almost 5 months later and this thread is still going. Last I checked, pugs were still dropping in CW. So I guess the OP didn't get much traction then hunh? In my opinion, that's a good thing.

I did, I'm asking the OP since it was their thread and title.

I agree taht new players should ahve a waiting period before joining CW. It's just simply too hard for a new player with no knowledge of Btech or mechs or builds or units or Mechwarrior, etc. to be able to understand all of those nuances.

All of those little things add up int he CW queue because the majority of people in the CW queue are experienced players. That's where the real discrepancy comes from. Not some magical ability some seem to think you obtain by throwing a few letters for a unit in front of your name, or joining a TS server, or joining a premade.

I personally think new players should have to complete training grounds and cadet bonus period before entering CW. It's a very soft gate that can be achieved by anyone playing the game, even brand new players. I'd lengthen cadet period to 50 matches, give them 2 mech bays, 3 mechs of their choice, and the cbill bonuses to customize them.

That's a very simple fix and solves many of the problems new players currently face in CW

The problem isn't pugs in cw it's playing like a pug in cw. The only big complication a pug should have in a new match is figuring out who's calling the drop.

If you drop in cw without establishing a drop caller and following the calls you're doing the same thing as running off alone to charge into the enemy and die in pug queue. You're actively making poor choices in how you play and you're putting effort in to losing. You should feel accomplished at losing often as it means your effort is paying off.

If you want to win in cw you play as a 12man every match if you dropped with a premade team or not. If you don't want that then CW isn't what you want, why are you there? New maps and modes?

If that's the case then push for CW maps/modes in pug/group queue. Trashing CW until it's as pointless as pug queue isn't a solution.

^^
I think PGI sees that honestly. Those of us that don't doom and gloom and use fictional statistics and data have had some good discussions on this and I honestly believe PGI listens.

CW is and, hopefully, remains the "hardcore" mode for MWO and that's exactly what was needed. If you want to derp around and run your 12 flamer whatever, more power to you, but don't expect to do very well in CW with stuff like that.

The difference in CW and PUB?

EVERY unit is CW treats it like a 12man drop.

In other words, every unit in CW does things like (as Mystere stated)
Designate a drop caller
LISTEN to the drop caller
Focuses targets
Sets up firing lines
Knows where to collapse and/or push to
Communicates very quickly in firefights to maintain focus

Those that don't?
Well you see a lot of those players complaining about things like
premades
12 mans
"seal clubbing"
etc.

This question is more than fair, and I will respond...

Faction chat: Can't see or use it from many screens (including the mech lab). No "In-Game Looking for Unit" option.

- alternatively: a damn sight better than the NOTHING that was available to players for the majority of the time the game has been out.

That's not a valid complaint, since Faction chat is ONLY RELEVANT for CW drops. So once you're in the CW window, you can see it. If I am not dropping in CW, why should I be subjected to Faction chat?

Again, this doe not invalidate that Faction Chat is about as simple, and intuitive as it gets.

In-game VoiP: Out of the box the sound is shiat (can be tuned to correct, but far from intuitive). Also, unlike TS3 you can not see a list different rooms (visualize who is dropping as a team, and who's on what team).

- alternatively: a damn sight better than the NOTHING that was available to players for the majority of the time the game has been out.

In-game VoIP is only for people in the match. If you're fiddling around in the Mechlab or somewhere other than the match, what do you need in-game VoIP for?

Plus, if you are dropping Solo (which is the target demographic of this discussion), who the hell are you talking to? Oh, and while you are in a match, VoIP connects you to your entire team, who else do you need to connect to?

Forums: Not 'in game'. Since everyone doesn't have 2 screens this can be problematic. (as true today as it has always been).

- alternatively: Exceptions aside...I like the vast majority of the MWO forum users I have interacted with over the years.

If you're surfing the Forums mid match, you're already screwed. The forums are an asset for you to use when you want to learn what to do, and where to go, and how to get in touch with factions.

LFG: Again, Faction / Unit / Team chat not available from many screens. Also, unlike TS3 you can't see rooms of groups (visualize who is in what group), subsequently that also means players can't join a group room and wait for a spot to open up when someone leaves.

- alternatively: a damn sight better than the NOTHING that was available to players for the majority of the time the game has been out.

Unit and group chat are available literally from every window. Just click the Social button. I'll give you that you don't know who is queuing up for a planet, but again. If you are dropping solo, that's not what you need. However, once 12 players have queued up, and you have a drop, you can coordinate with that group. Now if you are looking for a specific group to play with, Faction chat can get that done, quite easily.

Btw iraqi, I have been dropping in groups for a couple days, had some ok games, some not so stellar. The bottom line is grouping isn't easy, or intuitive. This game doesn't even have a PM system for gods sake, even for people on your friends list?!?. What year is this again?

The "tools" (and I use the term very loosely here) are sub-optimal at best and actively hinder players at worst, mostly due to how complicated they are.

If you click on their name, you get 3 options :PM them, Invite them to a group, or block them.

Again, I don't see where the complexity lies, in a single click.

OP, I'm still waiting for a reason why I shouldn't be allowed to drop as a solo player in CW.

Not you
Not new players
Not anyone else

Me

I drop solo

I'm a 3 year veteran of MWO
I own over 60 mechs
I have several "good" drop decks

So please explain to me why, according to you, I should not be allowed to drop in CW if I want to drop as a solo player.
