What I'm saying is that particular "improvement" it was supposed to have is next to useless, but more importantly it's disorienting because the minimap doesn't turn with you.

I think the map not turning with me has thrown me off more than anything else. That's half a second just to find my Dorito and process its orientation to me.

The style of the new mini map is better and more realism than gloss. It needs a zoom in of course.

PGI... The new mini map SUCKS, please give us back the old one or at least an option to use it. I cannot position myself properly if I cannot even see where I'm going.

I understand that I am throwing one more stick into the pile with this thread among all the other minimap threads, but think back to when the newest UI was released. There was a veritable **** tornado (shitstorm, if you will) about how it was clunky, unintuitive, time consuming, etc. But guess what? PGI didn't revert it, they stood their ground, and today nobody even thinks of the UI as an issue to consider. It simply exists (for the most part, I know this'll get you UI 1.0 folks coming out of the woodwork.)

Your mistake, Sir. I still very miss old UI. It was so simple, you have an ability to repair or not your mech before next match, everything were at his place, ordered, not overwhelming, like it is today. So your bullet miss this time. PGI make this game newer and newer, worse and worse.

I don't know if it's the new map or not, but the games seem much closer, and it's at least logical that maybe the old minimap was TOO easy to use.

Exactly. It's really too soon to tell, but my feeling is that we will get more even matches in the long run with this system.

Well you couldn't see the difference between assault and light before either. It's more a tactical think I think to see where to go and attack or defend, not so much what you look at while in the fight.

Its the wrong type of map, plain and simple.

Its a strategic view map that commanders, far removed from the battle, use to plan large scale troop movements and strategies. It is NOT a map the foot soldier on the front lines would use, ever.

I can fix that in a few seconds with Paint. Here's your new HUD dorito.

What if you car GPS would change to this fixed view with your car as a cursor moving around? Ok pointing down must mean you go south, right? Turn right next block, what? WHich right? Mine or the GPS one?

The minimap is totally ******. It no longer turns with you so it's completely disorienting -and the symbols are so ******* small you can't tell the difference between an Assault and a Light unless you full screen the minimap and only an idiot would do that in the middle of a fight.

<Steam Popup>
"Hmm? MWO Patch Notes?"
"Catapult rescale!" \o/
"Hello again, MWO!"
"Shiny Catapult, let's play a round!"
"uh, there's a red dot straight ahead? There's nothing? What happened to the map? Where AM I?"
"Good Bye MWO!"

That was basically today's experience of MWO.
The new minimap might be an improvement once they add auto-rotation (toggle?), zoom and possibly a few more options, but as it is now it's unfinished. And why would anyone replace a working module with an unfinished one?

So wait, you're saying that the old map let people move as a unit easily and work together to focus down enemies? Any group with microphones can still do that.
Yes, but it's not as easy, and more importantly you don't have as much info on where the enemies are, if you ball up you won't get a good picture around you, so the enemy that is spread out may have an advantage and can set up crossfire and things to make deathballing less common.

Everything you are saying about "skill" is nonsense. It takes one person to lead and 11/how ever many others that are willing to follow. That's not skill, its teamwork. With this new garbage, half the squad would get lost en route to the engagement area. Wanting higher skilled matches does not justify nonsensical, useless tools.
Yes, and maybe teamwork will get more popular now that you don't get as much info for free.

The new map is not something that a real futuristic battlegroup would use. If someone tried to give their pilots an engagement radar/map like this he would be fragged or court marshaled for incompetence within a week. That is what the full battlegrid is for. Not engagement range information.
Don't bring realism into MWO, there's just too many completely unrealistic things already, realism don't belong.
