Definitely need to rethink my builds for each of my Marauders after skimming through these builds.

As always, thanks for the ideas & info.

I've been running:
5D
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...794f24504f3bd49
275 STD, ERPPC, 4 MPL, 2 LRM10's, 1 JJ. Good fire support with 4 MPL for when things get close.

5M
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3edf92f762b0617
300 STD, AC/10, 3 LL, 2 JJ. 3 LL's for side peeding and and the AC10 is good for hill humping. Plus the ranges are the same on the LL and AC for great overlap of weapon groups when you need to get out into the open.

BH2
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f509287d60b6cf2
285 STD, Gauss, 7 ML, 2 JJ. Pretty much the standard ML build only with a Gauss instead of AC. I just had to put a gauss on a Marauder in that high torso mount. This build worked best. Plus it's pretty heat efficient.

I'm really liking the Marauder so far, it's the first heavy I feel comfortable piloting!

My current Marauder builds. Just bought them a couple of days ago, so I still need to level them. They're not even fully basiced yet, but damn, they're fun! My 3R is one of my best performing 'Mechs, currently. Might be due to the low number of drops I've had in it, but then again, just feels right Posted Image

MAD-BH2
AC20, 6 MLAS, STD300, JJ. Pretty straight forward. Walk up to them, shred them. Never really liked brawlers too much, but I'm having a lot of fun with the Bounty Hunter II. Probably because the 6 MLAS get out to 352 meters optimal with quirks and the range module, so I'm not entirely useless at medium distances. It does run a little hut, but I'm used to Clan 'Mechs... So that's nothing new Posted Image

MAD-5M
2 AC5, 2 LLAS, STD300, JJs. Didn't go with UACs, even though I could. This way, I can use the AC5 modules I use on the 3R as well - really, a budget decision, mostly. That said, I've grown to love the reliability of the ACs, so there's that. I'm really liking the solid mid range performance. The LLAS get some work done and the ACs can add a bunch of DPS - and suppressive fire - on top.

MAD-3R
3x AC5, 2x MLAS, STD300. My current favourite of the bunch. The lasers are pretty meh. Backup weapons add best, but they do add a little bit of damage here and there. But it's all about those three AC5s! I'm a dakka man at heart, so this really fits me. The alpha is pretty meh, but damn, the DPS this thing can put down. Chain fire for extended stare-downs to add screenshakes like mad... Lovely! Oh, and it's tanky to boot. Managed to survive stuff that I had absolutely no business surviving because the 3R is just a tough son of a gun! And it does look drop dead sexy with its Rasalhague camo:

I'm toying with the idea of swapping the AC20 on my BH with a Gauss...

Same build as above otherwise. Gives me 30 shots with the Gauss and runs significantly cooler. I love the BH2 as a brawler, but with the range the MLAS can get on it, it almost feels like I'm selling it a little short by adhering to the AC20's range. It's going to resemble a midrange Gauss Vomit build I quite liked on my Timberwolf.

Thoughts?

You mean like my BH2 build 4 posts up? Posted Image

I highly recommend it, especially with the gauss cooldown reduced from it's high point. And I brawl with the gauss after I've spent some time at range softening them up first!

But it's funny, I was considering swapping the Gauss for an AC/20 just to see what would happen!

I'm not a huge fan of gauss in any torso, weapon explosion would ruin your day pretty quick and it struggles to mount any other long range weapons to complement the gauss sniping.

AC20/5ML is for sure my favorite BH2 build so far. I'm debating Adv. Seismic or AC20 range with the freshly unlocked mech/weapon module slot. Radar Deprivation almost always goes on first :)

Kinda :) A few differences here and there, but I suppose I glossed over your build...

That is the precise reason I didn't do it yet. Losing the firepower mounted on the right arm is a daunting prospect... I'm a little short on C-Bills at the moment, so I'll probably hold off for now.

I don't worry about gauss explosions on larger mechs. If the gauss is destroyed there is a 90% chance of it doing 20 damage. 20 damage really isn't very much compared to the alphas of most mechs and your torso will probably survive. I can attest this from experience in my BH2, my gauss Shadow Hawk GD and my 2 gauss rifle Mauler 1P. If the explosion does take out your torso it would have been destroyed by the next enemy shot anyway.

The "no torso gauss" rule is mainly for smaller mechs where you don't have the internal structure to take an extra 20 points of damage.

I think it might be because of the low hit points and high mount, but I regularly got my Gauss weapon blown off. That does not happen with ACs.

Only played a couple matches, but this thing is scary. The XL engine may not be the best choice for longevity, and I likely don't need that many JJ's, but I like being able to fly Posted Image

Might want to add endo-steel. That'd give you an additional 3.5 tons.

Good call. Not sure what I'll fill the weight with, maybe a couple of ML's or a better engine!

So far I've not had much issue with an XL in a Marauder. Particularly in my 4 x PPC 3R. So good. Oh so damn good.

Well, you can put it all into an XL325...not sure that's really needed though. I'd upgrade the SRMs to 6s (keeping the Artemis) and then use the other 1.5 tons of ammo. I usually find that 3 tons is good for a pair of 6s, but unless you want to shave some armour, there isn't much else to do with that half ton.

I actually worked on the MAD-BH2 and found a loadout I'm happy with. The Gauss seemed too flimsy and it does take the arm with it all too often. Lacks DPS as well. The AC20 lacks range, it's hot for a ballistic and the cooldown isn't too great, either.

So, in comes the AC10, another Medium Laser and an additional DHS. The AC10 has sufficient range to supplement the MLAS, the alpha of the AC10 and the additonal MLAS matches the Gauss and the DPS is nice to have, if not the primary selling point. Liking it a lot so far.

BOUNTY HUNTER II AC20+6MLS < Best build I've found so far for the BH. It's completely replaced my old CTF-1X. Does the same job, but better. It's an oversized Hunchback of pain.

MAD-3R AC5s + 4xML < My favorite heavy in the game. The 3xAC5 is perfection for hill poking, group fired it's a rapid fire Gauss rifle. If a target tries to duke it out with me, I switch to chain fire and suppress the **** out of them, mixing in the MLs to drill. When it's hot, just run the ACs. Goes a bit slow with the 280, but meh, it's basically an assault mech so I don't care. This is by far the best Marauder variant because of the exceptional hardpoints and beefy structure quirks.

BHII @ 7 mlas, AC20

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...31d9d72f7140c06

16 DHS, 1 jj, std300, 4T ammo. Alpha, because the ghost heat from that last medium laser isn't as bad as the extra 5 damage is good. This mech is very good at losing components in the right order, just remember to twist and you'll retain 40pt alphas for a good long time.

Cabusha, don't run case. You have no ammo in either torso, so that's tonnage wasted.

Drop a ton and upgrade the Head Laser to an MPL. No ghost heat, more damage.
