It's not about "holding" locks. It's about pushing R in the first place.
we all - everyone in this thread - think people should press r in the first place. Maybe they don't do this in t4 (I'd be surprised if they did) but they absolutely do in t2+. Note that I'm not saying you're wrong cuz your bad here - I know you know your ****. But seriously:

Everybody in this thread agrees that everyone should be pressing r to target stuff whenever possible. That's just a deflection, a red herring.

This thread is about, specifically, LRM players at match start asking players to HOLD LOCKS. A very different kettle of fish.

I don't understand how anyone can call LRM's easy mode, when those same people are boating lasers. Nothing is easier than boating lasers. LRM's are actually quite hard to use effectively, it is far from just getting a lock and firing away to top damage most of the time, unless you're up against new players.
Only horrifically bad players call LRM's easy mode. They're only easymode against other very bad players, and even then anything else would be easier. LRM's are one of the least effective and reliable weapon systems in the game, if your opponents don't suck. If your opponents do suck, any weapons are effective against them (unless you also suck).

As such, no, this thread is in no way about calling LRM's easymode.

Getting your own locks is usually a sign of a good LRM boat

Asking others to get locks for you usually implies the user is a bad LRM boat; so you will find most people unsympathetic

and sometimes it isnt possible,
but hey,
unsympathetic people can suck my lrm nuts. :P

why run narc/tag as a light if people are just going to ***** and moan.
guess cuz it aint meta, or min/max, awww, **** you :P

If you think people aren't holding locks because they are selfish or out of spite, then you are really just clueless.

Considering I have seen enough players refusing to target enemies because "They'll just steal my kills", I'm going to have to disagree with you.

from the OP: "For example, i was just asking for locks in a game and i was told to get my own locks."

and I completely disagree about only lower tiers not pressing R. upper tiers are usually the first ones to say "get your own locks" and whatever, since they don't want you to use LRMs in the first place, because "skillz" or something.

Today im running a hbk-4sp 2×lrm10 4xmL and a tag, i use the tag for my own launchers but won't stay put for you ( quite simply the hunch has been nerfed into the dirt and is squishy as fk ) i cant afford to stay there and take fire.

the r button i use to let you know about a flank or a run on our base, again hunch is too squishy to leave the controls idle while i type crap about it.

I'd go so far as to call LRMs "easy mode" 1/4 matches. Statistically, you'll have worse pugs than you're opponent's team half the time. And for the 50% of times you have the less stupid pugs, you'll be on a good LRM map. I literally sit back, with zero armor, let my team get all the locks and bring pain to the enemy, while putting forth around 10% effort.

oh god yes...that is the most infuriating thing of all. fire ton after ton of ammo, carefully watching the mini map, maneuvering through the terrain to avoid hitting objects, quickly switching to greater targets of opportunity, then back to the first target again, only to end the match with high damage and only one kill, then have some jerk ***** that you stole "his" kill.

In high tier play, people more often request for others not to bring lrms rather than asking for someone to please bring lrms. There is a reason for that. Feel free to bring a team of lrm boats and see how it goes against a high tier team without lrms. I had fun using lrm to farm cbills at low tier but eventually grow out of it because it is no longer effective in higher tier. People rather win than lose, because you get your cbills faster. Factions have CW guides telling people not to bring lrms too, it is not an opinion, it's a necessity to have a better chance of winning. Feel free to build a super lrm team though, more farming opportunity for others.

It's a bit silly to provide the only example being a full team of lurm boats.
2-3 good lurm pilots can lock down an entire section, lock up muitiple mechs and lances. They can lock down an entire section of the map and expose hidden mechs through dummy fire and ams location.

I won't argue about t4 matches, I just assumed that due to less knowledgeable players. But at T2, I never see people refuse to hit R at all, and in the vast majority of matches people are really good about it.

Asking for locks implies that you're just going to sit back at 1k and lob missiles at walls.
Active lrm usage usually requires for you to stay with the group and close to the targets to get positive hits.

And you'd be wrong, very wrong.

Locking the enemy is called "telling the team who and what you are shooting at", unless of course you're one of those "They'll just steal my kills!" types.

While you do get easy lrm matches some times, I'd say 1/4 is overstating it. At least in my experience. As you don't need to just meet stupid pugs, but you need to meet unusually stupid pugs without ECM who also fail to shoot down UAV's... AND get into a good map and position on that map for them to work well.

A weapon system that works well occassionally, and only if the map favours you AND your opponents are too busy licking their windshield to get into cover? That's not an easymode weapon in the grand scheme of things :)
