@OP

It is just one Kodiak, the 3, that everyone is complaining about. Mostly because having such high-mounted AC spots is a HUGE advantage in this game and you can put some really heavy firepower in such a way that you can shoot over things most cant and can peek over things better than most.

So, its an issue about weapon mounts, and speed i guess -- but that is the same old clan XL engine issue.

loving the bias in this forum...(also i admit im bias to IS)

for real i try to be reasonable and i try to say 80% of mechs are even for the most part whilst the last 20% approximately. are sub par. but tbh this is the first time iv ever felt like something is a bit to powerful to be called fair.
on paper the kdk-3 is fair and very similar to the KC-000B.
but in reality the KDK-3 wins at least 70% of the time.

its speed, most of its hardpoint positions. and what it lacks in armor with most builds it makes up for in firepower, also that god damn screenshake.

granted the KC-000B can achieve a large amount of screenshake with Ultra ac5s it doesnt come close to the level of a 4XUAC10 daka bear.

and yes modules can dampen its effect you screen is still a bright flash and violently shaking. i also find myself killed by kodiaks with way a lot faster then what their DPS claims.
also in some situations nothing is scarier then an LBX40 KDKas rare as they may be.

can we all at least agree that they are a little bit too powerful in some respects

and if you KDK fanboys think that people that complain about it is just because their bad please post something reasonable or some proof rather than the usual toxic "cos other players are dumb" or "quit crying" this is a discussion not a daycare..

I own it, I have been using it and, yes, it is the most powerful mech on the battlefield atm. While it doesn't carry the most weapons it's decent armor, speed, surprisingly quick movement and awesome weapon mounts make it a dream to pilot. In something like a DWF or WHK, on the clan side, the movement issues always made lights a threat -- but the Kodiak doesn't have an issue dealing with them -- it drives like a heavy. The weapon mounts mean you have to expose very little of yourself to put your full fire on an enemy. (in many situations I can simply fire over objects onto an enemy and they can't return fire)

We all know that the immature players in this game will always jump to defend any advantage that they have (BJ quirks anyone?). On the clan side they usually citing "awesomely great quirks" (that dissipated 4 patches ago) or on both sides, suggest some specific build to counter said advantage as a solution to the unbalance. The truth is that the kodiak is the best and, in the spirit of fair play (because fair play = healthy game) the kodiak 3 is going to need some adjustments. My suggestion is reducing its mobility. Otherwise, the other Kodiak variants are good, but not game breaking.

Wow Neb,

That is perhaps the most reasonable post I have read in the topic of "to nerf ot not to nerf _____ (fill in name of mech)".
Better redact it. This is the MWO forums, we don't take kindly to reasonableness 'round here.

Now go to your room, think about what you have done, and re-post with snark, bitterness and a totally biased view point that you insist is pure objectivity. Then you may have desert.

The Kodiak Is a PWN machine as it should be. It's a mech to avoid facing directly in a brawl and should be sniped at instead. It excels as a target at long range but people often look at the firepower stats only.

I don't own any, it just doesn't fill my playstyle much. I prefer the Highlander variants for the combination of firepower and mobility, and they are right now the only assaults I drive.

You're simply going to "Snipe it" at range? What's stopping the Kodiak from sniping you? Quad UAC/5 with a MK7 computer is hard to out snipe, and dual Gauss is very common with da bears.

They often ignore you when driving a smaller faster mech. Choose a vantage point shoot a few times while its aiming its AC on another large mech (because that's what they often do), change attack position and restart.

Okay, and why does this tactic work better against kodiaks than against other assault Mechs? Sniping DireWolves at range is pretty damn easy....

because its different than Godzilla VS mothra like everyone else likes to do due to the constant prejudice that large mechs are always the way to go.

Playing Rock, paper, scissors is a way to deflect or avoid confronting the issue directly. Comparing 100ts to 100ts the Kodiak 3 is, well, just better.

These threads always sound like the OP is trying to prevent an incoming nerf because their PWN machines are making them feel like gods.

Well, i'll be one to admit that i do not like going up against a Kodiak because i fear/respect what they're capable of doing, but i don't see them being "OP". Now with that being said i have figured out a few tactics to use against them on my own by studying what their pilots do during matches.

I can instantly peg anyone who complains about the Kodiak being OP as one of two types of people:

1. The type that thinks they should be able to walk right through the open and simply absorb any fire they take without getting killed.

2. The type that thinks that 'mech battles boil down to two 'mechs facetanking eachother and repeatedly alpha striking until the other dies.

Both types are friggin' stupid. You don't walk out into the open and expect to live in an environment where accurate ranged combat is a reality and there are very few 'mechs who are going to engage in a facetank battle with a KDK and win. KDKs are not OP. I rarely get killed by them because I do not allow them the facetime they require to actually do meaningful damage. Motion is life in MWO. Be I in a light 'mech or an assault 'mech I am in an almost constant state of having my throttle engaged in one direction or the other. Even if I think I am in perfect cover I still don't feel comfortable standing still because you never know when someone is going to surprise flank you and one-shot you before you even know they are there.

there's other issues whem comparing the Kodiak with other 100 toners making it feel OP without being such.

well:
-Direwolf is much less mobile
-Atlas is (still) a glass cannon in the sense that at 50% integrity its basically a zombie. Oh and its much slower too.
-The shape of the King crab makes it easy to pop at close range when in the TT it looks so much better.

Anything else is just not a competition both in MWO or in the stats anyway.

The KDK-3 is definitely the best Clan assault in the game, but it is not OP. The "OP" build that people complain about has a glaring shortcoming, it has to facetank to be effective. If you cannot out trade a dakka KDK-3, then you should not be trying to. If repositioning is not an option, focus fire from everyone that can fire on it.

When piloting a dakka KDK-3, matches usually end one of two ways.

1. It dishes out good damage, gets a kill or two, but dies quickly since it is a priority target.

2. It dishes out ridiculous damage, gets 4 or 5 kills, and survives.

1 makes it no more threatening than a King Crab or Dire Wolf. 2 makes it just like any Mech you have a great match in. The KDK-3 is most threatening when leading a push that you did not know was coming.

Theoretically, a Gargoyle could run point on an unexpected push and wreak face. The main issue with the KDK-3, the only broken variant, is it's hardpoints. The rule of thumb when building mech is "fewer hardpoints= bigger weapons". Hence why the Kodiak 3 runs quad ballistics so well. The only nerf that could balance it for the long run is to remove two of it's Ballistic hardpoints and replace them with something else. Unfortunately, that nerf cannot happen because that would mean a tidal flood of refunds would occur and PGI would probably be in serious trouble.

Funny thing is that taking the upper hardpoints and installing them right below the lower hardpoints would normalize the **** out of the Kodiak3.

KDK was OP, before that the Marauder was OP. King Crab was OP. Before even that, the Arctic Cheetah was OP, and the whining continues even before that. You remember when the Fatlas was able to go faster than 30 KPH and people thought that was OP? The only thing that makes a mech 'OP' is people inability to counter it. Guess what, pelt that fatass with combined firepower and he wont be OP. This isnt Call of Battletech: MechBros, call priority targets and kill the ******* with help instead of trying to 'no scope 360 ghost ride the whip' solo mechs that outgun you. You want to remove the KDK as a threat, destroy their torso's and they are useless.
