Simple solution for the best of both worlds.

Make minimap have a toggle (or just checkbox in gameplay settings) for rotate or fixed.

And

Enable minimap to be viewed as entire map "battlefield" and also where it is zoomed in to roughly whatever the range was before this "proximity" A keybind will switch between maps. Default can be set in gameplay options...or just defaulted to "battlefield".

This way much like the division with "inverted aim vs non-inverted aim" with joystick shooters, those who demand a fixed map and those who demand a fluid map can both be happy. Not to mention we get the usefulness of a proximity map during battle and a quick switch to the entire battlefield (without actually going to the battlegrid in the heat of the moment) to glance at friendly and enemy contacts and ect.

Please....change the mini map back. I know I am beating a dead horse here but PLEASE. The redesign is awefully less effecient and intuitive.

My main complaint with the new minimap is the simple fact that it no longer turns with the 'Mech's torso. That coupled with the directional arrow indicating my legs' direction was how I oriented which way my 'Mech was going to move when I hit the throttle. The indicators on the HUD itself have always been too small and blended into the background visual "noise" for me to use in the heat of combat, especially when compared to the nice, clean indicator on the old minimap.

I like your thinking. If this were a competent Developer that ideal would have been used to began with. But alas here we are.

- Oh. I really love your idea. Besides fact of supporting 2 implementation of game mechanic, which can be pretty hard to do. But if that possible to switch between whole map and rotating around mech - I totally agree.

Add me into the new mini-map hater camp. It is less than worthless.

Oh and while we are at it, WTF is with the diamonds? Give us back the arrows. I used them all the time to tell where my teammates were facing.

It's more than worthless. It's flammable!

Liking most things... but the mini map. I keep wanting to touch my screen to change it to orient to me like NAV mode in Google maps.
I was amazed how dependent I am on the mini map for knowing how my torso to legs were.
Please make it something I can toggle and fast.

Not cool making it personal. My rage is with the end result of a process/procedure that should have been vetted more. It's not a 1 person issue.

- No need to say that. In other circumstances it could be good idea. Or if mech walks slower and make battle like tanks, making stops for precise fire. From whole new map mechanic - only that part went wrong and i think - it was decision between - make patch and see response or make delay and make all worse. But mech run fast, brawling battle too intense, all walks faster and every seconds can turn the win to the fail. For that speed - that was not a good decision. But no need to blame man who try make something better (like more fast and precise use of air strike, or target spotting). Its a gamedev. Here could be mistakes and great ideas. And even both in same time. We love that game. If no - we just go away and don't spend time to suggest how to fix it or what we expect to see in new patch. I hope everything must be good. Just give them a time to make fixes and make them right. Besides talking here - let them work on improvements. Can we wait at least 1 weak to see new result? Or maybe 2 weeks, if that much need to place back cone of view and direction arrow?

Actually, on this one, IT WAS HIS CALL. Go listen to the Town Hall Meeting from 17 June. Time marks 33 min to 55 min. I made it a personal statement because HE made it a personal statement. And I am paraphrasing;"I am a WoT guy, and I like their minimap, so I felt it would be good in MWO." That comment is in the first couple of minutes of the over 20 minutes spent on justifying this Piece of $h!+ minimap. And later in the town hall (44 min?) Russ says "They will have to live with it for at least a month." So in other words, Russ was being a TOTAL pr!ck and giving the ENTIRE COMMUNITY THE FINGER about this change, saying suck it and take it.

So he made a personal call, and I am making a personal call out.

All Credit to DemonRaziel who put this on Page 3 of the New Minimapo Feedback Thread, I am bringing it over here, so that people can watch this. The part on the minimap is from 33:00 to 55:00 (approx). I am just not smart enough to get it to post as a video window. Sorry.

Hum. Well... All I have to say is.... Russ, say it ain't so. Why did you not put in rotation to begin with? Why didn't you put in zoom to begin with? Why do you want to destroy what you love?

Hey everyone,

The news system is currently having an issue with comment activation, but we've put up a front page post regarding the changes to the Mini Map, and where we go from here. Head over to the news post when you have a moment and check it out. I'll try to get comments activated for the post as soon as we can resolve the issue with the news editor.

Don't bother patching. Game isn't worth playing until minimap is fixed.

I know this sounds melodramatic, and if I were you I'd have a hard time believing it, but trust me, it's the truth.

Its sad, but this guy isnt kidding nor is he being melodramatic. I just played my first match with the new mini map.
Im used to calling and the mini map does nothing but hinder command and control.
And I'm left with a headache after looking at it for some reason.

The new mini map is very disorientating. The new icons which show the three lances have merit but now you no longer see where your teammates are headed. I much more preferred the old rotating map blended with using the battle map to scope out the up close picture versus the big picture.

Executive summary:
If the purpose of the new map was to make people disoriented and easier prey for well coordinated teams that have code names for map locations as opposed to calling out combat grid squares then good job PGI you nailed it.

- Oww... now i see... Somehow i miss that video. Anyway - I agree with new icons of mech without showing directions. Its tactical cool. And make sence of using scouts and distracts tactic. But comparing with WoT... emm...

I never post but this new mini-map is horrible. I try to use it like the old map and it is totally disorienting. It needs to be zoomed in more like the old map if we have to keep it. It is so distracting I would rather have nothing at all. If we can't get the old mini back we need a toggle so we can turn this thing off.

as for the nerfs...the constant overbalancing sort of kills any consistency in this game. Am I piloting the same damn mech I purchased last year? How about last month? Nope!

What? Have you ever played an online multiplayer game? Ever? Any game that gets continued updating (excluding "buy the box" titles that get maybe 1-2 patches then abandoned) has ongoing balance changes. Every one. There are simple always balance changes, because balance is NEVER perfect.

I have never made a post yet as honestly things have been pretty good since I started. Some not so good. But more good than bad.

Not crazy about all the latest patch work as seems you magically picked almost all my IS Mechs in my garage to make bigger targets... But I can live with that. I like big mechs so comes with territory.

What really, really, REALLY sucks is the new mini-maps. They are compressed so much now that they are all but useless. We don't need such high res that you can't see anything but a huge triangle that is no where near to size of map. And I'm playing on 4k TV and still saying that.

Plz, plz with all that as good and wholesome about MWO...bring back same old mini-maps that were actually functional rather than this hyper shrunk battle map that only works when you open it fully and expand it. But can do absolutely nothing as when you do that....

One of the MODS posted a link to a new hot fix that will be done to fix the mini map and "perhaps" make it better than the original.

Check it out here: https://mwomercs.com...ng-new-mini-map

I just woke up from a terrible nightmare and when I opened my eyes I saw a shine of early sunlight... they are changing back (for the most critical parts) the mini-map. Bless the maker... :)
