The Sniper Meta Is A Problem

In the next patch some changes are coming to ER medium lasers that will reduce clan laservomit alphas by a small amount while increasing their efficiency. So this will make for a small movement away from alpha poking. I don't think it'll be enough to shift the meta overall though.

Only problem is nobody liked it.
Old Highlands was a LRM-fest, although I don't know how true that'd be these days with how much more ECM is out there. Colosseum was (before the umbrellas were added) fairly similar to old Highlands but with more vertical exaggeration, so the hills did provide more cover from both LRMs and direct fire, but even accounting for that it didn't seem to have the same rain-from-above issues as Highlands did.
Also @Heavy Money in re: ERLL vomit, last night I wound up spectating a guy driving nine ERLLs on a MAD-IIC :v

They were firing on chain fire. What drove me batty is that it was working, because their targets were under pressure up close.
Can't help but think they could at least have been firing in paired chainfire though.

Hehe it drives me batty whenever I see 8ERLL DWF instead of 2GR+4ERLL. But they are often allowed to get away with it too.

Oh it certainly will hurt people. But its less efficient and worse as a sniper than GR+ERLL. And its worse as a face time damage dealer than AC2 boating.

The 8v8 Atlas battle in the event was really great in my opinion. Fighting against equivalent machines is a wonderful experience.

The classic Atlas has an AC/20, four medium lasers (2 rearfiring CT, one in each arm), an SRM6, full actuators, battlefists if you're playing with quirks, and an LRM20.
And you think it isn't designed for CQC?

Judging by its bulky structure and size, yes.

As an 'Anything but light' pilot** id very much like to see fewer light mechs. The numbers of them in every match now is starting to get to the point of ruining the game for me.. i simply dont find them fun to fight against and the ridiculous level of underscaling on the smaller ones frankly offends me. If a Flea/Locust is that small i should literally be able to crush it under my foot or kick it across the map if im driving an assault.
(**if you forced me to choose just one chassis to pilot forever, it would be a Shadow Cat - so i guess you could say im a 'Medium pilot', but i do play heavies and assaults a decent amount)

And God forbid people want to play the weight class that's actually fun to play.
Would hate to be a game dev, gamers are so hard to please...

Id much rather a heavy enemy team than a light one. MUCH. The game feel more like mech combat and less like the 'unreal tournament' feel the fast lights have.
Id have no problem with them if they were correctly scaled relative to the other mechs (i.e. up to 2.5 times bigger than they are in some cases). That would prevent the 'running around the enemy team like a squirrel on crack' playstyle from being functional and force them to use cover like every other class.
And no, i don't think they are 'OP' as such, but really that's only because of how Inner Sphere PPFLD counters them. Streaks are no longer effective vs ights due to the armour quirks (or even work against them at all, now we have stealth armour)
If 'the class that is actually fun' is the class that doesnt even play like mechs at all, maybe you just dont like mech games?
Agreed on the dev thing though, it would be pretty thankless.

And who would like to play Shadowhawk sized PIranha with quarter of the CT hp compared to Shadowhawk?
Their BT size is BT size where battlevalue, multiple units for each player and dices are used, that kind of scaling is total nonsense in FPS game.
