Please don't use ableist slurs, it's just rude.

Where did I make the mistake of being ableist, could you please point it out? If you have some sort of negative connotations towards Hatchetmen, it's your flaw; because I certainly did not present them in any sort of negative light.

I guess this just enforces my previous post.

No. This is a serious thread for serious people seriously discussing the serious issues that the Something Awful goons seriously pose to the serious enjoyment of serious simulation of a HIGHLY serious 80's wargame on the internets, which, as we all know, are serious business.

Quoted for posterity and hilighting. Here it is, right here. Don't troll this thread please, doubly so when you are bad at it. We aren't going to scream "NO U!" and claim victory while the flames rise ever-higher, we're just going to politely inform you that we know what's happening and ask that you stop.

To stop something requires for it to have been started. I never did "troll this thread", my comments were an honest ponderation. If you would like something to stop, then I guess you would have to stop trying to twist my words to fit your own purposes.

To me it seems goons are a bunch of loosely connected people who do whatever they please to amuse themselves, may it annoy or offend others, but always keep it just a tad bit under purely offensive. Is that good or bad? I guess you all can decide for yourselves.

The closest comparison would be school bullies who bully a retarded kid for whatever he does. Often the retarded kid lives in his own world and doesn't even get it. But who are the bullies and who are retarded here isn't so clear.

The ableism in your post is the use of the word "retarded". It's no longer recognised as a medical term because it has offensive connotations, much like spastic.

If you are not trolling, could you explain why you have chosen to compare goons to either the mentally sub normal or a group of bullies? Genuinely curious as to how that comparison could be anything other than an attempt to get someone to throw insults back.

Mentally retarded is actually a clinically valid term and isn't globally accepted as an offensive term with negative connotations. The use of other terms is only preferred by certain people. I'm using the term as my intention was to be as clear as possible instead of using euphemisms, which I consider to be more rude.

The comparison is pretty clear: whether you are a bully or mentally retarded, you do whatever you please without regard towards others. In the first case it's because you don't care, in the second it's because you don't understand.

So you are being insulting then? We are either bullies or unable to understand our own actions?

Edit: "The noun ****** is particularly seen as pejorative; as of 2010, the Special Olympics, Best Buddies and over 100 other organizations are striving to eliminate the use of the "r-word" (analogous to the "n-word") in everyday use."

That seems reasonably clear to me. The organisations that represent people with the condition are actively campaigning for it to not be used because it has so many negative connotations.

Edit 2: even the forum language filter blocks it as a noun.

Just think, if everyone banded together against The Terrible Goon Peril then there'd be no need to introduce the Big Bad that the Clans represent! No overpowered clan tech, no omnis, no need to have to try and balance all that stuff. We're unjustifiably sure of ourselves, issue demands/challenges at the start of a fight, have our own made up language that appears similar to English (SQUAAAWK) and frequently impose handicaps on ourselves (all dragon lances, all commando lances, etc) for reasons known only to ourselves.

PGI, WE can be your outside context problem!

I was trying to rally a giant CW army against thee by subtly pushing the buttons, but people ran to moderators. These things take time. If you really want this you have to allow the community to attack you as a hole (:D), not just where you roleplay. You have to allow access to attack the deathstar, not run to moderators if its out of context. (both sides) But think of it, unlimited battles for WoL, and a real enemy to fight, for uber nerds. Real, frothing nerd rage on the back of a stick, what's not to like?

If you'd like to start a thread to rally people against the terrible secret of space then do feel free. As a courtesy I won't come in and attempt a derail as you have done here. Helmer asked early in the thread that we keep it on topic. It's unfortunate that you think that people doing that are "running to moderators" and frankly that turn of phrase makes you sound a bit petty.

There is a clear difference with stating something and comparing something. Is it not the case that goons do as they please in MWO without regard towards other people's more serious approach to the lore and game? It's "all for the lulz", as I've seen stated somewhere else on internet.

Pasting stuff from Wikipedia doesn't make a fact, neither does a forum language filter block. And even Wikipedia says it's being campaigned for by only certain people, as I said.

I suspect we'll have to disagree then. I still feel that, especially as you've come into a Q&A thread and done nothing but make an unflattering comparison, you were looking for nothing more than an argument. I have sadly given you one. I apologise to those reading the thread for it's derailment and I shall stop it.

We'll have to disagree, indeed. However, this isn't a Q&A -threat, per se, and I didn't come here looking for an argument. This thread wasn't started by you goons. If you read the first post, this thread was started by an individual concerned about goons who wanted honest opinions from people, goons or otherwise - that is what I provided. If you find my comparison unflattering, maybe you should consider your actions then, because all I've done is given a visualizeable description to them.

I didn't really want an argument, but since you decided to make it into one, I felt I had to keep you from distorting my opinion into something else.

I had thought that it was the "grogs" not the "goons" that ran to mods, it was the goons who merely threatened to do it. Many Someones did, and none of them were me. I'm not being petty.

I'm saying, thread derailment IS community warfare. It extends beyond the battlefield, beyond roleplay forums, or it is useless when it comes to you guys. I wont' do it here, I'm done, enjoy your thread, but in the future, when it happens, my idea is to spin it stronger, and use the 4th wall as a marketing technique, not turn on the lights when the actors walk into the audience.

Hey I think this guy gets it. You sir get a golden banana sticker.

*Stands straight while receiving the sticker*
<S>
"Thank you, Warriors of Lowtax. In the past, to much bad blood was spoiled between our races. Many of us in the I.S. couldnt stand the fact, that your race - although inferior - could stand toe to claw with us. Here and now, i will call them idiots. I will call them stupid, i will call them cowards. Your kind has proven itself on the battlefield. It has been proven that your hearts are the hearts of warriors."
*lowers his voice*
"But beware, Children of Lowtax! Not everyone in this, in our, Inner Sphere has overcome his fears. Many have opened their minds so much, that their brains have fallen out over the time. We all know their names, their faces and their homes...
*Raises his voice again*
"And we all know what happens to them if they dare to stand up against us in the field of honor!"
They will falter, they will fail, they will crumble under our mechs like insects!"
<S>
"Farewell, Warriors of Lowtax."

Nice work proving how terrible you are at trolling. It takes guts (or something) to poorly-troll a group you know nothing about without doing any research whatsoever.

Well if it's the same Goon Squad that is in EVE online they are sort of a joke. The only reason they do what they do is because the CCP devs don't enforce their own EULA. If this dev team does then nobody will have anything to worry about with the guild called Goon Squad or the "Short Bus Brigade" as I've always called them.

Besides, if this dev team is smart they will eliminate the ability of premades to go up against pugs. Any system that allows premades to enter pugs will hurt their bottom line in a big way. I'm sure that these devs are smarter than that.

They're those annoying little kids that like to spam chat and gloat about beating pub groups like it means that they are good or something? Beating pubs doesnt make you good, it just mean that the team sucked. It's not much of an accomplishment and the gloating and spamming chat just makes them look like the joke that they are.

but hey, i guess trolls gonna troll. So far they're the only feature that would make me not want to play this game. I'm sure the devs appreciate them driving people away from the game.

Mr. Tech-No-Vi-King:

For you to suggest that you were attempting to rally a giant army against the Word of Lowtax by posting in the manner that you did gives me great confidence when Community Warfare is actually released. There is a level of sophistication and planning which I'm just not seeing, and I'm not confident in your assertions as stated without more proof.

However, your skills as a comedian shall not go unnoticed, and for that I commend you.

Thank you for your post. We here at the Word of Lowtax appreciate comedy, especially from someone who was so opposed to the Word of Lowtax initially. Good to hear that you're on our side!

Mr. Particle Man:

We here at the Word of Lowtax appreciate your comments. Perhaps, if you will, peruse this thread and examine all of the posters with Word of Lowtax signatures. I would suggest to you that we have made up for more then your decision to not play the game.

We at the Word of Lowtax also find it humorous that a handful of users are able to discourage you so in your efforts to play the game. One can only wonder if we here at the Word of Lowtax didn't exist, you'd direct your unhappiness to some of the other groups that currently exist, or perhaps the phases of the moon. Who knows?

Thank you for your post, and we here at the Word of Lowtax will take your advisement under consideration.

Robotically Yours,
