Why developers continue to demonize Capellan Confederation?

We likes our leaders eccentric. Mainly cause we are too! The bottom line is Liao is for those who want a challenge. If you want to play in our sandbox we don't demand blind obediance. Try that in one of the fan boy militaries and see what happens. We embrace difference and encourage thought. You can read history however you want (ask a good historian) but the facts remain we are here and OUR Warriors are more than up to any challenge we encounter.

This is something to remember about all the Houses with varying degrees. They've got certain things about their culture that is dominant, but there's a lot of mixing going on through the ages that pure labels from current time become a bit too constrictive.
House Liao, like many others, can be quite diverse in their own way, it's what makes them and the other Houses interesting when you think of their links and possibilities from our current history.
As for demonization....well someone has to be the bad guy from time to time, and it was just their time and crazy leadership. I mean, it's not like the FedCom isn't going to take a nasty hit later with our civil war. And that's the point...Battletech needs wars, it needs a focus from time to time to look at and hate, we need seeds of combat to keep playing and having fun.

Very true.. I think the Battletech world would look a lot like the Firefly one. A mix of all the different races and cultures.. new tech and old tried and true tech.. Writing would be a mix of english, chinese and korean (because it is the only asian phonetic alphabet so it is easier for westerns to learn to read and write.)
That said.. on Northwind we have a saying...:

If you read any Dark Age stuff (and I don't blame you if you don't) House Davion gets their turn. Caleb Davion is a schizophrenic rapist with multiple personality disorder, who murdered his own father (movie Gladiator ring a bell here) in order to become First Prince instead of leadership passing to his cousin Julian. It isn't biased or propaganda to call Caleb Davion totally raving mad, because the dude needs serious medical help and a padded room. It's just a sad fact.

To make matters worse for the Davion fans, assuming my memory serves me well here.....but didn't Caleb also have serious brain injury/damage/brain condition that prevented him from ever using a neurohelmet thus he can't pilot a mech?

Good example, everyone has their turn at horrible leaders. Look at Caleb, or even Katherine, it isn't just a Capellan thing, but the Caps are just the current whipping boys of this era so to speak.

If only good old Hanse was good at his word, and instead of turning towards Liao he actually reclaimed every one of the 20 some worlds lost to House Kurita in the first succession war. Le sigh.

Youre scaring me Jack. Sometimes you don't even sound like a Daviot

Hmm... it's a good mix of sweet and salty taste. If my plans of opening a 5 star restaurant with it as a speciality fail, I'll send you the recipe.

The Sword and Dragon module, page 21, talking about the captured Cataphract that one of the Davion pilots uses.
The Cataphract was the Capellan Confederation’s attempt to
build a heavy ’Mech using the limited resources at its disposal.
Incorporating components from a number of other designs, the
Cataphract was (rather unkindly) dubbed the “FrankenMech.”
The Earthwerks Cataphract production line at Tikograd was
captured by the Seventh Crucis Lancers when Tikonov fell to
House Davion during the Fourth Succession War.
One of the first Cataphracts off the production line,
CTF2X00013 fought in the defense of Tikograd, and was taken
as salvage by the Seventh Crucis Lancers. George Lytton was
given “Lucky Thirteen” to replace his aging Warhammer. Using
parts from the Earthwerks factory, Lytton’s Techs repaired the
BattleMech and corrected all the shoddy Capellan workmanship.
Seriously? This is one of THE premier cutting edge Capellan mechs, and they want to imply that Capellan techs don't know what they are doing.
WTH????

Also, the wording was shoddy Capellan workmanship, ie we don't do a good job. The Confederation is lacking in resources, not skilled labor. The MIG was build in communist Russia, and they were also the first in space. Tikonov is space Russia you know. lol
Just because the nation seems to be lacking in plenty from the outside does not mean that our techs are less competent. I would say that we are much more innovative because we find a way to do more with less all the time.
Once again the writers want to paint the confederation as a bunch of illiterate, undereducated drones while the more evolved House Davion walks on water. Its really lazy writing. The Taurian's had a higher standard of living than most of the Star League. The Canopians have a higher standard of medical care. Capellans make the best use of ECM and Stealth systems so we have a very skilled tech staff for that. BTW we ave a 98% literacy rate compared to the other houses.
Having the Cataphract stated as full of Shoddy workmanship would make as much sense as the cutting edge fighter craft to be built like the Russian autos.
