I totally understand the desire to run open beta, though at this point... I kinda find it a moot point... it's been more or less open beta for the past .. .. .. I think this is more to quell issues with resets, and set up for the next package release, which as guilty as I feel about it.. I will buy.. :P with this part I agree...

Though...

I would like to see ....

Some notation to the memory leak issues as well as game stability with crashes dcing and maybe an ability to re-enter game if it does kick you..
More information on DX11 and physics implementation " mechs acting like mechs and not buggies on wheels when going up hills.. maps without kill spots that auto kill with no count down...

I will admit I was upset too see my single heat sink design was 5 heat lower than my double heat sink design but all in all I was happy to play, I just think that the game issues with stability and ease of function will have more negative impact if people see this as a premature launch too open beta...

ps: I see it necessary to launch open beta when you decided, but wish these issues were fixed ;) can't be helped and I understand thx for the great game just my 2 cents..

pps: I run pre-made from time too time and PUG as well, I find my biggest issues with PUG games is frequent disconnects and having too run with dc's, having to run with players that don't play well or can't play or don't know how to play, having no skill lvl sets for matches all matches are ... random vs easy med hard difficulty levels... all of these things leading to the inevitable group or loss game issues.. though I win about 1/5 PUG games I'm in... so all in all not terribly bad though seeing I only lose 1/10 pre-made

Can you let us know when factions are going to be enabled. It would be nice heading into open beta to be able to at least begin to set up merc corps.

As off now, the Open beta will be a two sided sword.

It will allow more people to directly tap into the experience of this game, ramping up the immediate player base Wich is gonna give PGI a better understanding of their market base.
Widening the array of rigs playing this game will allow for better understanding what limit the current build has.
Current Beta tester, will mostly drove their friend into this game, and this will make some good cascading publicity.

However,

As stated in this topic, Open Beta Tester are less likely to fill bug report. As for the common mentality of this saying is : "Free game , almost finished, just want to play it"
A new playberbase, with people not aware of what Battletech is, are gonna be set aside when encountering fan all knowing what mech, weapon and equipement does. People will think everything work like Battlefield or WoT (Shoot until either 1:Gun empty 2:Target Dead 3: Own vehicle boom) and will get frustrated by being shot down while shutdown.
The lag, might become even more of a issue, since the beta will be worldwide, without no idea how much new player might connect.
Even for a Mechwarrior/Battletech Vet, current weapon damage and balance are somewhat shady.

But sincerely, I just hope this Open Beta will brought attention and money to PGI. Also granting each continent at least a server.

My only bit of advice for pgi is, make sure you are abundantly clear on the fact this is only a extended demo of the game and that you arn't even at the 50% mark of what you have said the released game will have. If you make that point very very clear you might avoid the storm of bad press that will hit you. ( Please avoid that at any costs) To many mw fans want you to succeed. This has way to much potiential to fail from something like that happening.

Ah the MC Purchase thing can someone set this straight

Do we get all the Mechs & Mech-bays we've purchased with MC? Or is all MC refunded?

I'm hoping the latter as for the last few days I've been buying different mech testing them out to see if i like that class and version. Half of which aren't for me. So I don't want those mechs back I was going to buy the ones i like. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't give us the stuff we've purchased with MC. the stuff we do want we can re-buy.

Hi all,

11 pages ofreplies are quite a lot to read, so i don t know if anyone discussed this subject yet:

COMMUNITY WARFARE

Opening Beta means possibly a lot of new ppl coming in and testing. A few other actual player already stated a big truth:
We are Mechwarrior core fans and we enjoy the game because we know alot about the background history and Lore.

Thousands of other gamers are not. Not providing a reason to play (Community Warfare), will make this game short-life, because let s be honest... playing a team deathmatch or a base capture over and over again does not provide that much of longevity.

If ppl does not have a reason to do it, they will leave.

I am the first one who loves the game but I think it has sense and will be the Real Success when the Community Warfare will be implemented.

PGI please, do not underestimate how important this is. This can make or break this project success.

Sure, there are other core features have to be tested and introduced, but without a Motive to play this game, ppl will not stick to it.

Please introduce a rough version of Community Warfare soon to show ppl the huge potential of this project!

Good luck...

A strong supporter....

I did when i said this is a extended demo that isnt even at the 50% mark of what they have said they wanted the game to be. If they make that point very clear and put in regular patches (every week) no matter how small as long as they do a patch people will see it evolving into what there vision of the game is. Hope it will be enough to avoid a poop storm of bad press guess only time will tell. I realy hope it is i've loved the mw franchize since mw first hit a pc i'd really want to see it with even a bigger fanbase.

it just hit me a fix that makes pgi look very inovative market this as a extended morphing demo there problem solved. dang that was easy. Oh maybe i should explain abit ok exteded morphing demo implies that it is a tates of what the game will be just a taste. Also you get to do something i don't think anyone else has ever done so you can claim being inovative also.

Just out of curiosity, how is it a 'beta' if you're going to start taking money for micro transactions? That just sounds like 'launch' to me...

My addition to the many excellent points above:

Monday is not Open Beta. Monday is Release. Every indication is that IPG is using the Google definition of Beta. I don't believe new players will be retained with the limited content and non-existent matchmaking. The market for MechWarrior games, even F2P, must be smaller than games based on more popular franchises like Star Trek or Star Wars. We know what's happened to more developed games in those milieu.

Releasing to Open Beta with little that works 100% properly outside of the cash-to-MC system makes me cynical. We don't need to be condescended to by an executive when the user community asks the developers for more time to implement the items that will keep new players coming back for more. We understand better than most what our fellow gamers want, and we're HIGHLY motivated to do what we can to make this game a success. We love MechWarrior, and don't want to see this license fade back into obscurity. I *want* to be able to recommend this game to my many MW/BT-playing friends, but cannot until at the very least a match-making system is implemented, and the most basic elements of the game's underpinnings - hit-scan detection, memory leaks - are working as well as you'd find in a traditional game release.

Suggestion - assign a liaison to the Dev team to actively participate in the forums as a Community Advocate. This will gain your organization additional credibility and goodwill among your users. If you think WE are a tough crowd, remember, we're the folks who are trying to help you succeed. When the general public arrive Monday, it's open season.

push the idea of a expanded morphing demo it is your only way out of some really harsh and damaging things that are sure to be said. I don't care what you call it as long as it clearly says "demo" . So far this is the only accual idea brought forth that could help the public discord you are sure to see. (assuming it does get released monday)

I just really wish I community warfare was implemented before launch. I'll be here playing anyway.

(Once I have a computer again anyway....)

I've been moderately happy with the improvements and changes that the game has made, but some of the things I just don't agree with. The thing that bugs me the most is lasers... I personally think standard lasers should be a short burst (to better mimic the damage of lasers in Battletech and the other Mechwarriors) A pulse laser is right where it should be. A pulse laser in my personal opinion is worse than a standard laser for what it offers and they're relatively the same exact thing.

I'm pleased that the game is in the process of being made, but there are definite improvements I'd make, if my opinion were to actually be able to assist in the improvement of the game. I say keep it up. I'm interested where the game is going to be more towards release.

no, game optimization is the thing they need to get right.

i get half the fps in late october that i got in august, so I can only imagine how many customers with will be driven away. especially the ones that are fooled by the listed minimum requirements.

Them you need to change your setting to fit the game this is CryEngine 3 not some engine platform it is and is going to be graphic heavy my machine runs it fine.

Are you ******* kidding me.

The current game is a disaster. This isn't just a matter of lacking features, this is a matter of half the **** in there being bugged to hell and back.

then maybe you should have gave some founders money to support the game instead of making false statements and whining
