So if 3rd person comes out, I won't use it myself out of preference, but I'll only be against it if it gives a tactical advantage over 1st person players.

This view would enhance my feeling of being in the mech. Allow cool screenshots. Allow direct viewing of damage taken. Be helpful in seeing if your hungup on some part of the map. And also provide view to the rear.

this can be solved using the MFD inside the cockpit, a camera facing downward feeding video inside the cockpit.

3RD person view is not needed granted this was featured in the current games predecessor Mw4 mercs however this game has
more emphasis on PvP. Every game has some sort of learning curve some steeper than others, however simply just making the
game grandma friendly is of no credit to the user or the developer. PGI look at the poll make the right decision, make the smart decision.

closed mouth doesn't get fed if no one whines then the majority as a whole gets screwed. clearly this is one of many issues that need to be considered that will have a huge impact on the game.

So Russ let slip in an interview with No Guts No Galaxy we are looking into a 3rd person view option. It seems a lot of people are unhappy with this, so we’d like to explain our thought process here.
For reference, we also strongly recommend listening to Russ’s comments, as he provides a clear case for our approach.
Over the course of development, we’ve had a huge number of requests for a 3rd person camera option. At this early stage, it’s something we feel that warrants further analysis, understanding and exploration.
MechWarrior Online is, and will always be, a game focused on 1st person combat in Mechs. That experience is sacrosanct to the classic Mechwarrior experience.
If we find that there is a relevant role for an optional 3rd person camera mode, then then would simply be an additional option that, if you don’t want it, won’t affect you. Bryan will be writing a detailed Command Chair post on this (he's currently at 40,000 feet, and not by Jump Jetting) with more details. For now, be assured we're acutely aware of past problems with 3rd person view, and will make sure those same issues are thoroughly addressed. We wouldn’t settle for anything less.
Cheers,
The MechWarrior Online Team
Its quite obvious they got the feedback they needed so we are basically yapping about something that is addressed and we should focus on other issues.

"Hey, we looked into it, and we realized it was a dumb idea, sorry for going back on our promise and causing all this fuss. We are now back focused on what we should have been doing, and that is putting in new mechs, maps and game modes, while balancing weapons and fixing bugs, in particular the netcode issue. Happy gaming everybody!"
C'mon Garth, Russ and Paul....get back on track where you belong. Look after us and stay true to the franchise first and foremost and the rest will look after itself.

I have to disagree with the phrase "The rest will look after itself".
This is a Relaunch of the Mechwarrior franchise and with it they need to attempt to suck in new players, a new fanbase to keep the franchise rolling. This does include catering to new players to the franchise by entertaining, if not implementing, some of their suggestions and ideas.
If the Mechwarrior franchise had "Looked after itself" then we wouldn't have had to "relaunch" the franchise on "gaming systems".
