MWO Launch Event for Dummies:

MWO, skipping into the room - "Hey! Today's my Birthday! Ready to go!!"

PGI, looks over from the lazyboy - "Oh, that's nice." - Goes back to reading the newspaper.

MWO, looking confused - "But, aren't I the sparkle in your eye? Aren't we going to have a party? Presents? Anything?"

PGI, speaking from behind the newspaper, puffing cigar smoke - "I told you you weren't getting anything."

MWO, starting to cry - "But..but...I thought....you'd surprise me...."

PGI, shrugging from behind newspaper - "I got a few guys coming over for beer next Saturday. Maybe we'll do something then."

This, actually, made me a Sad Llama thinking about how true it is

This is a great place for me to expound on my sentiments. I'm totally NOT blown away by this launch. I'm a legendary founder. I've dropped $800 into this game with various MC purchases, buying founders, buying phoneix, buying saber. I play as much time as I can afford to because I LOVE this IP.

However I'm truly disappointed with this launch and I'm disappointed at PGI's ability to listen to it's core audience. I am the type of player that will make this game successful in the long run because I have disposable income and money is worth less to me than time. No private match maker, no CW, not even anything to truly tickle our fancy at the legitimate launch. Sigh, at this point I really believe launch happened 1 year ago when PGI started taking cold hard cash from us.

It is my sincerest wish that PGI can make good but I'll be honest, I've gone from a staunch supporter to a huge doubter of late. It's on you PGI, make OUR dreams come true.

I'm glad I came to check the patch notes before wasting the time to reinstall...

LOL, PGI didn't do anything for a "launch" promotion, no sale and one dumb
event to get players online metric to increase so they can claim some success...

Nothing new released...

That launch trailer is blatant deception with the 20 mechs on a team imagery.

Underwhelming to say the least.

State of the Inner Sphere

It’s been just over two years since we entered pre-production on MechWarrior Online in summer of 2011. We unveiled our plans on Halloween 2011 and then spent another year in development before releasing our first open beta version on October 29th, 2012. Since then we have patched the game over 29 times, and have registered over 1.3 million players, and we continue to see amazing growth and engagement from our community!

Since Open Beta launched, we have added 100s of new features: including visual customization, ELO match making, 13 new `Mechs, 4 maps (soon to be 5), tutorials, testing grounds, new modules and consumables, improvements to the UI and HUD, additions to the end of round summary screens, new user stats, controls options, new team play options and coordination in the form of lance and company commands, the massive 12 v 12 feature, 3PV, new `Mech movement on slopes, `Mech quirks, and much more. Not to mention tuning, bug fixes, and performance enhancements, which have significantly improved the quality of the game during our open beta phase.

With launch officially here, players can expect MechWarrior to continue to storm ahead with regular semi-monthly patches for the foreseeable future. We have a full slate of expansion features coming out during the next year, which include our new entire re-envisioned user interface, private matches, level and rank system, the ability for players to join and create custom mercenary units, new game modes, Clan technology, and the epic battle to control the Inner Sphere. All of this in addition to our regular monthly content updates and events. Expect us to continue delivering new maps throughout the next year, with some exciting new concepts like Island Metropolis out in October, and Moon Base due out in December.

We have captured the essence of what it means to be a MechWarrior pilot and we look forward to expanding the MWO universe with exciting new content for many years to come!

Operation 24

Celebrate Launch and the fielding of 24 `Mechs on the battlefield with Operation 24! Play any 24 games (win, lose or draw) between September 17th and October 1st (10am PDT) to receive a cool in-game “Operation 24” hanging cockpit item automatically.

Launch Event

On Thursday Sept 26th, Infinite Game Publishing and Piranha Games will host the official MechWarrior Online North American Launch Event and Tournament at The Mezzanine in San Francisco. Registrations to compete in the North American Launch Event Tournament are closed, but you can tune-in to watch the invitational tournament and festivities live at www.twitch.tv/mechwarrior from 2 p.m. Details can be found at http://mwomercs.com/events.

Where's the thanks, for your beta testers, Bryan & Co? Hmmm?

Even though you consider us not your target demographic, some nominal recognition and thanks would be nice.

To the whiners, complainers and BPM'ers: we will always have you around as good comic relief material to chuckle at. You are playing A GAME ON A COMPUTER - Get over yourselves and think for a moment that the world, nay the universe does not revolve around you or your own desires. If you didn't like the way that a particular weapons effectiveness was altered, your time to speak-up about it is OVER; it's not PGI's fault that you didn't understand what BETA TESTING is all about. Testers provide input to the Developers to assist in the development cycle. We will *not* miss you one single bit if you chose to stop playing MWO, and your commentary here in this late point in the Beta Test process is a joke. Do the Game Development Industry a favor and NEVER volunteer to Beta Test for another game, because your complaints NOW contribute NOTHING to the process, and only serve to show what massive jerks you are.

To the supporters: Soldier On! I've been playing BattleTech/MechWarrior games myself since MW2, played MW3 & PM, MW4, BK & Mercs and went through at least 5 sets of different Joystick / Throttle combos through that timeline. Bear-in-mind that I *do* have my own problems with MWO, but I see these as challenges for ME to adapt to, not for PGI to fix to make ME happy. I'm having to learn how to play MW all over again because of the poor Joystick support, but I'm willing to LEARN and not B*TCH about it.

Adapt...or move on.

To PGI: You've done an admirable job in resurrecting the franchise! As a former Dev (not in games, but in products that come out of a little company in Redmond) I know the hard work it takes to get a product to launch. People seldom understand the grueling process of developing software and the effort put from all involved parties in getting it released; they also rarely understand that *any* software product that is released is never "feature-complete" at the release date, and that patches and updates are always part of the development process of any kind of software development project. It would do the nay-sayers a bit of good to take that to heart and engage their brains before posting ill-informed comments.

Here's to a bright future for MWO!

At least you've finally outsourced your trailers to someone who does a downright better job. Not to disrespect your previous trailers but that's significantly better.

That being said the only thing I can say to the devs is to be wary of reviews and don't get too dictatorial in regards to peoples discussions about the game. Especially honest discussions.

@Darius

Over 40 employees working over one year, lets say 80.000 hours all together for what? A few new mechs? A few bad maps? Fixing weapons? And for that you need 80.000 work hours? Are you serious????

Yup, little disappointed that there wasn't as much as a new map for launch.

However: for all the people who complained that a game where you could spend money was still labeled "beta" - this launch is for you. Congrats, the label is off. Judging by the "reviews" on metacritic, you have already found plenty to complain about in a more high profile environment.

Remember when our only big concern was being unable to save our login information, then the forum software was a couple months out of date and got hacked so a lot of us received that spam email as a result?

There should be a re-launch in 2-4 years when the game is actually ready for launch. It's PGI's game though so whatever, i like playing it; closest thing to mechwarrior you can get right now.

This is going well, three 'cannot find games' while solo queueing in a row.

I am so glad I got my Overlord refund.

Thanks PGI!

How about the other Inner Sphere States like St. Ives? Or something like Canopus are they coming too? Or just the Clans?
