When I was first shown the Clan package offerings I dismissed it out of hand, thinking it had to be some sort of joke.
I'm still staring at the webpage wide-eyed, still not sure if I can believe what I'm seeing.
This founders tag shows that I put a nice chunk of money towards a nascent game I wanted to succeed. More than I knew I was going to actually see value for. Game got off the ground and into some sort of playable format that was reasonable. I never got value for my money, as expected really. The 'hero' mechs are better than the Founders mechs, have a higher c-bill bonus. I'm a little bitter about that, but I have to remember that I knew it wasn't going to be worth it.
But this...is outrageous. Hundreds of dollars for packages that are 6 months out, with zero details on how they're going to be implemented and balanced. There's no good reason to bundle so many things together into such high-dollar packages apart from what seems to be naked profiteering banking on the impulsiveness and impatience of a few people.
Here's some advice people. Don't buy into it. Don't dump a pile of money onto a package to get the one or two things you actually want. This is the very first look at it, and they're banking on overly eager folks throwing money at something they don't even understand. Do you know how your Clantech is even going to be balanced? How much it'll take to just buy it with MC or C-Bills after release? Patience will save you a lot of money. Spending it now is also not sending the right message to the developers either.
There is no Community Warfare. This is the game that should have been Open Beta. Buying hero mechs and now this is just paying them not to develop the features that were promised so long ago already.
Pretty much this.
The clan mechs look great. Praise where praise is due.
But the pricing? The whole payment model of MW:O?
One word:
Ridiculous.
They could make tons of money from real micro transactions. Like getting the original color pattern from one of the house units. Like real unique variants. Like mechs 5$ a pop instead of fullprice game's worth.
It seems like they're counting on a small number of crazy players to actually pay for all the stuff. Nothing else could explain these prices. It's definitely not aimed at quantity.
