Then why not get a LAM?

LAM's need too much maintenance and spare parts are practically non-existant. I want something light, cheap, simple, has hands for working, and parts are available when I have to raid for them after society collapses.

What's the easiest way to shoot them in the head with a shotgun? No 12gauge-equipped 'Mech? Shame.

Flamers, then. Lots and lots of Flamers. Firestarter ftw.

Think LBX autocannon with cluster munitions.

That said, Marauder with an LBX AC5, medium lasers, and ERPPCs. The lasers will cut through the undead abominations, and the LBX AC5 and ERPPCs would dissuade any non-undead predators.

Or the AC20 model UrbanMech.

uranium fuel rods? umm... i think you mistake them for the crappy nuclear reactors WE use today.... actually, Mechs use FUSION reactors, they transmute Hydrogen into Helium, and there´s very little need of "waste disposal" or refilling, for their "fuel" lasts longer than you live.

Uh, yeah, I agree with Xyphr here on that front... even a relatively inefficient fusion reactor is going to take the better part of four or five thousand years to spend even a half of a percent of its' fuel supply. And even when all the hydrogen has been fused, the helium can be fused, too. As for a refuel... Hrm, I seem to recall 3 gallons of water translating to 2 gallons hydrogen and 1 gallon oxygen. Roughly speakin', mind you.

Why all the energy boats? Do you know how ineffective those weapons are against infantry? Your Lasers and PPC will, most of the time, kill only one or two litte zombie kids per shot. Have you ever seen a zombie movie where you had time to kill them that slowly?

Flamer and Mashine Guns should be your weapons of choice when dealing with such soft targets. So I'm with the firestarter crowd on this one. Then those brainless fools can't even sneak up on your rear, because you have a flamer there as well.

Energy boats don't need ammo, for one. Even at 200 rounds per ton, your MGs will run out of ammo. Show me the ER-PPCs, Flamers and Pulse Lasers any day. No ammo to worry about.

As for cooling... Heatsinks, and big lakes tend to work just fine... just watch for zombie fish.

Why are you all so worried about ammo dependency?.. stompy stompy

Ah the Zombie apocalypse.. providing guilt free murder sprees since 1968.

So true!

Finally, as for fortifications... topple some buildings in a rough approximation of a wall. Burn (or blast) a nice big trench around said "wall"...
And decorate your new junk fort how you wish... as for paint... there's alot of dead dudes what ain't figured they're dead yet, use them.

I'd get a dropship to make money off of all the zombie hunting pilots needing to move from place to place. :o

Hrm... I got a better idea...

Grab a dropship, preferably something absolutely massive.
Mount some Long Toms on either side, stickin' out the bay doors.
Pick a big frigging city, and shell the ever-undead hell out of it, until it's leveled to the ground.

Fly off to the next city, and repeat.

I bet there'd be few cities remining intact during the zombie appocalypse, those few cities producing mechanical parts, durable goods, and other supplies... and you'd bomb them!

I'm starting to suspect you're a ZomStar agent.

Think of it this way, alright.
Big cities are generally massive population centers, correct?
In the MechWarrior series, overall, most, if not all, factories and lab facilities were kept away from said massive populous centers. Likely a theft deterrent.
As such, shelling the ever-holy-hell out of big cities wouldn't get rid of said factories and labs... just lots and lots of dead people what ain't got the proper sense to realize they're dead, and shouldn't be indulging in cannibalism.

new design for anti zombie apocolypse mech.

catapult k2, 6 small lasers for rapid fire close range zombie annihilation, 4 med lasers for longer range zombie softening, and a pair or large lasers for picking off potentially dangerous zombies at long range, it can jump out of trouble, igniting any zombies under it when it does and smashing any when it lands. its pretty fast with an xl engine and well armored.

Depends, actually...
Flamer tops at 120m
Standard Small Laser tops at 120m
ER Small and Small Pulse both hit 240m

So, if you go for Pulse or Extended-Range lasers, you'd be better off.

I'd be worrying less about killing zombies and more about securing equipment supplies, shelter/protection, functional farms, and not worrying about parts or copious ammo. That's why I keep saying "Simple Mech with hand actuators," but noooooooooo, they all want an ÜberMech with 10 flamers, 4 Clan PPCs and a pair of AC/20s...

I'm telling ya man, if society collapses... K.I.S.S.

Axman, after all everyone knows that to kill a zombie you have to remove the head or destroy the brain.

Gonna get technical here...the BLR-1Gc Battlemaster. Drop the machine guns (what zombie lore ever said machine guns were efficient, anyway?), double up on your heat sinks, and as an added benefit you get a command console. Why is the command console good? It's a dual cockpit you can use to either carry someone you choose to rescue, or it's extra cargo space for those fun traditional anti-zombie playthings.

I would say a Firestarter or a Crab that loses a Large laser for some flamers and med lasers, maybe a Marco.
For battle armor I would probably go for a Salamander or a Longinus if the zombies wait a few years.

I'd take an Urbie.

Easy to move around cities, good chance of finding parts.

And if I come across any survivors they'll just take a look at me and think "Oh he's in an Urbie, he has nothing worth taking!" and I can go on my merry way. Plus if they want to fight, i'll be in a city (where all the supplies are) and have the advantage.

AgroMech

Because I could. And they are human zombies. Any mech around could just step on them.

Now let me get to work with giant claw and rotary saw!
