Because I could. And they are human zombies. Any mech around could just step on them.
Now let me get to work with giant claw and rotary saw!
you have to have the one with the Rota-tiller hand so you could just grind them all into fertilizer, i mean hey, once its all said and done your gona need fertile soil... am i right.....

Do you seriously think zombies could chew through armor that can soak a direct hit from a medium laser? That's like having zombies chew through a tank. Any decently designed power armor has no real exposed joints or anything.
Honestly I'd rather have a CBT tank than a 'mech if power armor is off the table, because at least they have room for supplies and another person or two, while still having features like unlimited ammo and fusion reactors. You just can't spend your entire life in a 'mech cockpit and almost anything you'd need to do would require you to leave your 'mech. A Pegasus Hovertank would be an interesting option - just hang out on the water most of the time and raid coastal towns with your medium pulse laser from time to time.
Still, power armor = you only need to leave it when you are entirely safe and literally need to never take it off when there's even a remote chance of a problem. Again unless we upgrade this to Resident Evil styled zombies that sport rocket launchers and can capsize freighters, power armor is pretty much zombie apocalypse God mode.
That's really a pretty hilarious thought. Your standard zombie wouldn't be smart enough to operate the guns in any manner except accidentally I wouldn't think (and definitely not good with aim even if it was intuitive enough for them to figure out), but the biggest problem is they can't bite targets in the armor.
So if you were killed by a power armored zombie, what would probably happen is you'd literally have the head piece of the armor smashed into you over and over. Ouch. At least you wouldn't turn.
correct me if I am wrong but isnt most power armour features voice controled

Also, I would imagine zombies don't appreciate the drill arm.

Why? First of all, it's fast and great for travel. Lightweight and fast, i'd Franken-mech mount some Jump jets and jump from building to building in an urban envrionment.
Second, the flat top would allow for tie down storage or even a small house to be built on top.
Third, i'd rather use PPC bolts than infantry-grade MGs that use Ammo. They don't have ammo, and are perfect for getting groups taken out and vaporized.
Fourth, encounters with larger mechs = a fighting chance w/ PPC and good armor while maintaining great speed.
I'd maybe modify it a bit, add a hatch on the roof and get some armor plating from whatever destroyed/abandoned BattleMechs and make a living quarter. After which, I will make everything static or tied-down/bolted to the floor when on the move.
Now that you think about it... Cut an Atlas's head and paste it ontop of the Adder... intresting.

Edit: Oh, also, I can cram my family into one of the CASE pods instead of the ammo. lol

Squash and burn (whether with lasers or fire, it does not matter).
Gotta wonder about those lasers having strange effects on odd mutagens (or strange parasites) though, because this here is exactly what LASER stands for: "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation".

And no other Assault mech really fit the bill of ease of maintenance and hands plus mostly energy weapons, so the BL-9-KNT Black Knight came to mind. upgrade version with ER PPC, 2 Large Lasers, Large Pulse Laser, 4 Medium Pulse Lasers, and one hand carrying a hatchet for when it's just too damn hot to fire your lasers. Lots of fire power to rumble with just about anything and stand a decent chance of winning, IS tech for ease of maintenance, and hands to help out when you really just don't wanna get outta the mech.
On second thought, I'll just start a gang and start takin everyone else's stuff!
