Lol If I said Loki, then I most assuredly meant the Thor. The Loki IS trash.
What thread was it in? I went looking and couldn't find it.
Edit: Nevermind, I found it. I did say Thor. Maybe you were thinking about the Loki when you were posting?

Believe, I would never intentionally call Dear Leader's OmniMech bad.

SO if you get a hard on for a complex mech-bay, min-maxing and trying varied and exotic builds then clan Omni's will leave you disappointed.

Umm, in TT, if you've got the space(crits), and you've got the tonnage, you can do it. Omni's are extremely flexible, and that was (part of) why they were so nasty.
However, then that leaves mechs capable of ridiculous min/max. So I agree that this is not possible in a balanced video game.
I'd be willing to bet large amounts of money that PGI wil NOT allow Omni's to be customized to player's desire.
They're going to sett the various premade designs (Prime, Alpha, etc) as variants, just like the current systms,, maybe with a bit more (but not much) freedom. (If it were up to me, I wouldn't allow Armor increases/reduction, Heat sink, Ferro, or Endo changes to omnis, but allow them more freedom with weapons changes this would give them a different flavor, but allow some balancing)
There are several reasons.
1. If Omni's were truly omni, PGI could only sell one of each omni to players. (This is the most important in terms of ENSURING Omnis won't be truly omni)
2. Truly omni mechs would be ridiculously overpowered. (eg Daishi with 4 UAC-20s... It could one shot anything)
3. The clans typically used the Prime, Alpha, etc system, probably for material replacements rather than inabilty to set mechs however they wanted. Minor changes were pretty common in the books however (eg Pulse replacing an ER, etc)
I do hope that Omnis have a different feel to them, The clans have developed offence (firepower) much more than they'd developed Defence (armor/surviveability, though both were at higher levels than Inner Sphere tech of course) It would be nice if clan mechs SOUND different inside (ie different sounding engines) if their weapons sound different, etc, they should sound higher tech.

The modular construction allows MechWarriors to customize their machine's weapon loadout to suit their own skills and preference, and suit specific tactical or environmental needs as required. Where a BattleMech of comparable weight is designed and built for a specific role, a OmniMech can serve as a direct-fire combatant one day, and a missile boat the next.[14] A single 'Mech that can perform the role of four frees up significant logistical space during a campaign. [17]
Though not solely created for modular weapon loadouts, the OmniMech design greatly **** repair and construction as well. If a weapon pod is damaged, it can be quickly detached and replaced with another while the original is undergoing repair. If certain weapons or ammunition are unavailable, alternates can be easily substituted. Once their modular weaponry and equipment is removed, the empty bays generally provide larger spaces to access and repair the base chassis. Damaged components such as arms and legs can be easily replaced in half the time it takes for common BattleMechs, and often with less experienced technicians able perform such tasks.
Omni-Mechs are modular. I never said they didn't have options but those options are limited to pre-configured sets. You won't or shouldn't be able to take out and add individual weps/ammo/HS at will. Instead it's like equipping a set of gear.
Arguably this will be good for pugs and poor players who can't figure out good builds. They will have great builds essentially served up to them.
On an unrelated note it also appears as though many Clan-fan-boys expect to able to click a button, be placed in the Clan faction and then to roll over all the I.S. free-births with their superior tech. These people are out of their gords, and setting themselves up for a huge disappointment. From the moment Clans are introduced there will likely be mix-tech, because video games.

Omni-Mechs still preform like a dream come true, and preform their assigned tasks extremely well.
Check your expectations, but still look forward to them. Don't expect to get much fun out of tinkering with them, but they should still play well and look great.

This is not a thread - this is a public service. And I should be paid for starting it.
If people read more this thread there wouldn't be half of the useless threads in this forum. (threads about the Unseen, the clans, the hero mechs. Heck, even threads about information you fail to document and show to members)
